Mangalore, May 6: A case has been registered in Bunder police station here against labour leader Sudatta Jain, and city-based high court advocate, P P Hegde in connection to a complaint of 'collecting mobile call details of Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, without authority and using the information thereof for twisting the facts, creating records, and defaming the MP by sharing this information through Facebook and other modes of electronic media'.
Relating to the incident in which an attempt to slur his image was made by Sudatta Jain, who had charged in a press conference that Nalin Kumar Kateel had conversed with a lady for several hours every day for a protracted period of time, the MP had filed a complaint with the city police commissioner on April 17.
As per the directions of the police commissioner, a case now stands registered against the above two persons. The police had then asked the cell phone service provider as to how they could share information relating to a client to third parties without authorization.
In his complaint, Kateel had said that Sudatta Jain, who had fought the recent Lok Sabha election as an independent candidate, and advocate, P P Hegde, had illegally obtained call details relating to his cell phone from Bharti Airtel. This information was then used to twist the facts and post materials in Facebook and other electronic media to suggest that Nalin had promised government job to a lady and sexually exploited her. A photograph of a girl, whose face was not clearly visible, was also posted along with the said material, the MP alleged. Nalin also alleged that a fake news item spread by these persons had the heading, ‘I will obtain resignation from Nalin if he wins: Prahlad Joshi’.
The police have registered the case under different provisions of Information Technology Act, it is learnt.
