Mangalore, May 6: "The urban property ownership project has received better response in Mangalore than in other cities of Karnataka. Under the project, a property owner will be issued an urban owner property card which will be linked to the Bhoomi and Cauvery project," said Ponnuraj, commissioner of the survey department.
He was addressing the press here at the DC office on Monday May 5.
"This card will be an authentic property ownership document. This property card will have the details of property liabilities, sketch, map, boundary, and type of ownership. The card will be in the form of a booklet of seven pages. This will be the authentic document to sell and purchase property.
"In the urban areas, this will be made mandatory in place of ‘khatas’ and RTC. This will help to reduce property disputes and check property tax evasion. This will also help curb the duplication of khatas and malpractices. In future, no registration of property will be done in the urban areas without production of the property card," he said.
"In the city, 55 percent of work on the urban property ownership project has been completed. Measurement work on 1,40,085 properties has been completed; 66,718 necessary documents have been collected, and mapping has been done for 1,400,852 properties. In Mangalore, there is good response as compared to other cities in Karnataka. It took four years to complete 50 percent of the measurement work in Mysore and Shimoga," he informed.
"There is also a plan to start ‘Kandaya Adalath’ in rural areas to resolve property disputes and defects in the RTC. This project will be started on a pilot basis in Kodmbodi of Puttur taluk and Maroor of Moodbidri. We are also getting good co-operation from the people," he added.
On this occasion, deputy commissioner A B Ibrahim was present.
