Mumbai, Jun 25: A housewife in Khar hanged herself from a ceiling fan yesterday night, allegedly due to loneliness.

Relatives say Kantaben Patel (22) was very lonely after she and her husband Ramesh (24) shifted to Mumbai from Kutch in Gujarat three months ago and that could be the reason for her death.

Ramesh, who works in a garment-manufacturing unit at Charni Road, returned home from work around 10.30 pm and discovered Kantaben’s body at their Jawahar Nagar chawl home. 

PSI D D Kamble of Nirmal Nagar police station said, “With her husband at work the whole day and with nobody at home, Kantaben felt very lonely.”

Kantaben’s brother Kanti Patel, who lives in Charkop, Kandivli, also supports the police theory. In a statement to the police, he said, “I used to meet my sister regularly and there was nothing to suggest that there were problems in her marriage. But she felt very lonely in this city and was always upset about it.”

The police do not suspect any foul play and have not arrested anyone.
