Rome: Konkani Kutam converges for joyous Easter celebration

Report: Fr Victor Rodrigues SVD

Rome, May 5: The Easter celebration of Konkani Kutam of Rome, Italy was held on Sunday May 4 at the SVD (Society of the Divine Word) Generalate.

The Eucharistic celebration was presided over by Fr Peter Paul Saldanha, professor at the Urbanianum Pontifical University and concelebrated by nearly a dozen of priests.

Preaching on the ‘burning hearts experience’ of the disciples of Jesus on the way to Emmaus, he shared inspiring reflections on Jesus’ mysterious presence in the Word and the Bread and gave a clarion call to have a similar experience, while breaking the Word and the Bread during every Eucharist. The melodious choir by Br Rockwin Pinto with his team ensured better participation in the Eucharistic celebration.

After the Eucharistic celebration a short entertainment programme was organized and Fr Rudolf Pinto, the MC of the programme kept the audience engaged and enthralled throughout with his lively compering.

Fr Sunil Ranjar raised the toast and wished all the best to Fr Peter Paul on the occasion of his 50th birthday, Br Rockwin Pinto who will be ordained deacon on May 9 and to the outgoing members of Konkani Kutam. Fr Charles Serrao, OCD, a member of the Konkani Kutam Rome, who was recently elected the provincial superior of the Carmelites of Karnataka-Goa province was also remembered and prayed for. The Gurkar, Fr Victor Rodrigues SVD proposed the vote of thanks and applauded the wholehearted support and generosity of the members. Fr Walter D’Mello prayed the grace before meal and thanked all those who prepared it.

Around 70 people who gathered on the occasion enjoyed the delicious traditional Mangalorean dishes. The celebration ended by singing 'Laudate Dominum'.

Happy Easter to all. Joy of the Konkani Kutam in Rome is reflected through the happy body language of our good friend and former football defender Brother Tony Crasta and his jubilant Konkani brigade.
