Kundapur: Lokayukta raid - Official fleecing retired teachers caught red-handed

Daijiworld Media Network – Kundapur (EP)

Kundapur, May 3: Udupi Lokayukta officials on Saturday May 3 raided the taluk sub treasury office at and caught second division assistant Sadananda red-handed accepting bribe.

Retired teacher Irene Sahadevi, a resident of Church road, had gone to the office of the sub treasury along with her son on March 24 to receive a cheque of Rs 13,326 towards her monthly pension for April.

It is alleged that Sadananda had asked Irene Sahadevi's son to go out and told the retired teacher to pay Rs 5,000 in order to get the pension.

It is said that twelve retired teachers had been made to pay Rs 5,000 each to Sadananda in the past to get their pensions, and Surendra, a person who came to know about it reportedly had informed Lokayukta about it.

When Irene called Sadananda and asked him if she could come to take the cheque on May 2, he said that it was a holiday and told her to come on May 3 with Rs 5,000. When Irene negotiated and said she would pay Rs 3,000 instead, he reportedly said that was not enough as he had to distribute the amount among his colleagues. Irene who recorded the conversation complained to the Lokayukta.

The Lokayukta officials set a trap and instructed her to pay Rs 5,000 in cash to Sadananda in his office on May 3 and take her cheque. Irene did as directed.

The Lokayukta officials who were waiting there caught Sadananda red-handed and registered a case. He was arrested and produced in the Kundapur sessions court.

Lokayukta should also raid R.T.O. Mangalore and dig out rampant corruption there. Without a broker nothing moves in Mangalore RTO. Every one is demanding bribe openly in RTO Mangalore.
A Clerk there threatens that if anyone Complains to Lokayukta against him, then he will lodge Caste-Atrocity case against such complainant ! This is how the caste atrocity Law is misused to protect the corrupt govt employees.

When everybody right from top to bottom (right till sweeper level) is involved, what is going to happen, nothing!! It is a well known fact that the lower category collect on behalf of their bosses and so on, and his part of the largest share goes to him!! Some are made scapegoats once in a while if they fall in the bad books of their peers, thats all!!

Unless the public itself sternly refuses to bribe nothing is going to happen!!

Most of the people themselves offer bribes voluntarily to get their work done fast and without hassles, and it becomes a habit with these greedy chaps!!

Shame on this person!! Corruption has spread everywhere like a cancer!! The root cause is at the ground level and the solution has to come from that level, which if we analyze will know!!

The following quote by Dalai Lama sums it up well:

"We will never solve our problems simply by instituting new laws and regulations. Ultimately, the source of our problems lies at the level of the individual. If people lack moral values and integrity, no system of laws and regulations will be adequate. So long as people give priority to material values, then injustice, inequity, intolerance and greed all the outward manifestations of neglect of inner values will persist. ~HH The XIV Dalai Lama~

Citizens Charter in treasury office and every other Govt. office with CC cameras is the answer. Citizen charter means with in stipulated days an officer has to complete a work of the citizen. Because we all pay taxes direct and indirect and from there the officer is paid a very good for the service he renders and does not do a favor to any one. If he is delaying the service then from his salary the citizen will be compensated. Because he is our appointed servant and we are the masters. So far the politicians and officers are benefiting from the loot but the day citizens demand from legislators proper laws and citizens charter that day the officers will stop taking bribes and sharing it with higher ups. AAP is the first party to highlight the issue of Citizen Charter and all politicians and officers got frightened.

I ask myself ,whether These People are not feel shame to collect others Money .who knows it is how Long it is going on? checkout his wealth and make him pay back thier hard earned Money with interest. My suggestion is why should in this Computer Age still the payment should be made in Offices per Hand?Better since everybody is having a bank account can be transferred direct to the account by the central govt.or from the employer. It is easier and the Person Need not appear to collect it and pay each month bakshish.even thieves also have less Chance to robbery.we here all get through our Giro account payment, pension or pay bills through this account. No Need to stay cue for payment.

Laws are not tough enough to punish the corrupt officials. Most of them get away with a slap on their wrist and get their job back only to continue collecting the bribe.

We need amendments to the relevant laws. The government should establish fast track special courts to deal with corruption cases. The onus of proving innocent shall lye on the accused person.

I think if Aam Adhmi Party comes to power, then only one can expect such changes.

There are many more in MCC, MUDA, etc. in Mangalore. Everyone from top to bottom ask for bribe shamelessly. These are public servants and should never be taking bribes but they project as if they are doing us a huge favor by giving approvals. They should be jailed for at least 10 years. They are all criminals, according to me.
