Kasargod, Apr 30: Kasargod police on Wednesday April 30 seized 50 kg of ganja that was being transported in a car and arrested a person in this regard. The ganja was seized at Kunil at Mogral Puttur.
The arrested person has been identified as Joy Joseph (25), a resident of Idukki. His accomplice Rojas from Kozhikode reportedly managed to escape.
Police also seized Rs 10,000 in cash found in the car.
Acting on prior information, the Kasargod police conducted the operation under the guidance of narcotics cell DySP Suresh Babu.
The Swift car was moving towards Kasargod, when, near Shiriya bridge the highway police signalled it to stop. Joy and Rojas sped away without stopping the car, and police gave them a chase. The Kasargod police were immediately informed.
The accused, on seeing the Kasargod police vehicle, reversed their car and fled, and were again chased by the police. In a bid to get away, the speeding car went out of control near Kunil and veered off towards the railway track, stopping when it hit against a boulder.
The police rushed to the car and arrested Joy, while Rojas managed to flee.
On inspecting the car, the police found ganja packed in plastic bags. It is said that the ganja was being transported from Idukki to Kasargod.
Kasargod station sub inspector T Uttamdas, Sunil Abraham, K Srijith, K Jyotish, Mahendran and Kamalakshan were part of the operation.
