Panaji, April 30 (IANS): The Goa unit of the Airports Authority of India was Wednesday issued notice by the state pollution control board for discharging untreated sewage and waste water from its new terminal into an open drain.
The notice, issued by member secretary of the Goa State Pollution Control Board Levinson Martin, also stated that the new terminal was functioning without statutory permissions required under the Water Act.
The notice follows a complaint by a village panchayat about untreated sewage from the airport premises flowing into a storm water drain in the vicinity.
The new terminal of Goa's Dabolim airport, which was inaugurated last year, has been constructed at a cost of Rs.345 crore and is designed to handle over 2,750 passengers at peak time.
