Mumbai, April 30 (IANS): A benchmark index of Indian equities markets gained 163.96 points or 0.73 percent during the pre-noon session Wednesday.
Good buying was observed in banking, oil and gas and auto sectors, while marginal selling pressure was seen in capital goods sector.
The 30-scrip Sensitive Index (Sensex) of the S&P Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 22,517.63 points, was trading at 22,630.15 points in the pre-noon session, up 163.96 points or 0.73 percent from the previous day's close at 22,466.19 points.
The Sensex touched a high of 22,680.46 points and a low of 22,499.10 points in trade.
The S&P BSE bakex went up by 178.56 points, oil and gas index gained 163.38 points and auto index inched up by 105.95 points.
However, capital goods index slipped by 14.71 points. The wider 50-scrip Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) also gained 47.10 points or 0.70 percent and was trading at 6,762.35 points.
