Karkala, Apr 29: Biju Thomas, who was arrested in Haryana on Sunday April 27 in connection to the confiscation of large quantities of explosives around the taluk last month, was on Tuesday April 29 brought to Karkala.
Karkala police led by SI Kabalraj nabbed Biju Thomas in Gurgaon, Haryana on Sunday night. Police personnel Dinesh, Shivanand and others were part of the arrest operation.
The Udupi police in its blog stated that Biju was arrested in Delhi. However, ASP Annamalai confirmed that he was nabbed in Gurgaon.
The Karkala police led by Annamalai had raided several places in the taluk in the last week of March and seized ammonium nitrate and other explosive materials worth several crores. Biju Thomas from Kerala, the main accused was absconding since then.
Sources say that Biju has political backing which has helped him transport and stock tons of explosive materials around Karkala and other places. It is said that the explosives are used not only for quarrying but for unlawful activities as well.
Biju will be produced in court on Wednesday April 30. The police are likely to get his custody for further investigation.
