Mumbai, Apr 29 (IANS): India's stock markets benchmark index Sensex fell 83 points Tuesday, led by losses in banking, metal and auto stocks.
The 30-scrip S&P Sensex (sensitive index) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened in the positive at 22,654.28 points, was trading at 22,548.73 in the early afternoon, down 0.37 percent or 82.88 points from its previous day close at 22,631.61 points.
The Sensex touched a high of 22,681.89 points and low of 22,470.43 points in the intra-day.
The wider 50-scrip S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) was trading 0.27 percent or 18.55 points down at 6,742.70 points.
There was selling pressure in banking, metal, auto and FMCG stocks.
Banking index of the BSE was down 0.65 percent. Metal index slumped 1.67 percent. Auto index fell 0.50 percent and FMCG index was down 0.81 percent.
