Riyadh, Apr 27: Konkan Ghar Riyadh (KGR) celebrated Easter, the resurrection of Jesus Christ, on the April 25 at Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. 'Jesus Christ is Risen 'Alleluia', was the theme of the KGR Easter celebration.
The celebration commenced sharp at 1 am with the short introduction elaborating the significance of Easter, followed by short and sweet Easter Prayer Service in Konkani led by Sunita Menezes Miyar and well assisted by Nita Vas Mulki. Godwin Mendonca Mudarangadi delivered the Easter message to the gathering.
The cultural event began with a welcome note by KGR leader Eric D’sa Pangla. He introduced KGR's objectives as a community establishment, its ideals, values and necessity to keep up the charity work alive.
A fashion show presented by the children was the key attraction of the cultural event they exhibited their talent.The crowds appreciated the ramp walk done by the small children. Ritika Kamath, with the support of Latha Rajesh and Smitha Haridas, choreographed the show.
There was a flurry of songs by various artists: Godwin and Jyothi Mendonca sang the well known Kannada film song 'Gubbachi Goodinali'. Lancy Moras, a well known Konkani hymns and songs composer and singer from Jeddah, sang a Kannada film song 'Naa Haadalu Nivu Haadabeku'.
Sunil Kodi, sang kannada songs 'Ninnindale' and 'Onde Ondu Saari'. Khan sahab sang Hindi Song “O Meri Mehbooba”. Nazir Ahmed sang Hindi Song “Pal Pal Dil Ke Pass”. Vincent Moras sang Hindi Song “Raat Khali Ek Khwab Mein”. PM Basker sang a Tulu Song 'Mookeda Singari'.
It was the dance performances that rocked the stage. Neelan D’Souza, Karan Nazareth and Simona Fernandes danced to the tune of Chenai Express’ movie song “1 2 3 4 Get on the Dance Floor”. Dance performance by Jeena D’sa to the song 'Dhol Baje' from movie “Ram Leela” with Gujarati attire was well appreciated by the crowd.
The duo, Rithika Kamath and Smitha Haridas, made the crowd to swing with their marvelous dance show to the most popular Marathi song 'Kombadi Palali'. To the evergreen Goan song 'Ya ya maya yo' dance performed in pair by Eric and Anita, Godwin and Jyothi, Salvador and Preema, Ashlyn and Nagaraj was a special treat to the audience.
While Ashlyn Rodrigues demonstrated her talent by playing the song 'Chahu Main Yaa Naa' from the movie ‘Aashiqui 2” on the key board, Neelan D’Souza exhibited his guitar talent by playing the music piece “Dil na Diya” from Krrish 2 and 'Mere Sapno Ki Rani' from Aradhana, secured a loud round of applause from the audience.
Varieties of games, as per the age group, were very well conducted by very dynamic games encyclopedia Amitha Prabhu Bijai. Prizes were distributed to the winners. Easter raffle draw was conducted by Eric D’sa and attractive prizes were distributed to the lucky winners. It was the privilege to the gathered children to receive Easter Eggs from the women who were honored on the day by KGR. Jameel Shariff, a Karate instructor from Hassan, displayed his Karate skills.
Maria Mathias recited the prayer before the meals. Dinner was catered by Mashal Restaurant. A Housie Housie game was conducted by Alwyn Rodrigues and Praveen D’Souza. Nagaraj Balal Anchan added a generous dose of humor to the occasion with his rib tickling jokes.
Vote of thanks was proposed by Anil Roshan Moras, Nainad. Edmond Lewis anchored the programme. The programme concluded with a dance tapping song “Ashuntha’ by Lancy Moras from his album 'Milan Mogache' and Konkani Non Stop Baila, to which the audience tapped their feet and rocked the stage.
