Kasargod, Apr 26: In yet another case of extortion of an NRI, a gang allegedly forced a Gulf returnee to pose naked with a woman and clicked his photographs, threatening to expose him on social networking sites if did not pay them Rs 30 lac.
Following the incident which took place on Thursday April 24, the police on Friday April 25 arrested three of the accused, including a woman.
The arrested persons are identified as Abdul Rahman alias Annan (32), a resident of Pallikere, Harshad (25) and Naseeda (32) of Trikkaripura.
Four others, including another woman, who were involved in the incident are yet to be arrested, sources said.
It is said that a gang has been operating in the district that specifically targets NRIs. In this case, as in other similar cases, the mobile number of the victim, a resident of Kanhangad, was somehow obtained, and a woman began calling him, developing friendship in due course of time.
The woman then reportedly invited the NRI to meet him, and he was taken to a deserted house at Kasargod Chowki, where Rahiman, Harshad and others forcibly undressed him and clicked his photographs with the woman, it is said. They then demanded Rs 30 lac and threatened to upload the photos on social networking sites if he did not pay the money.
When the victim said that he did not have that much money, they told him to pay Rs 7 lac. Finally, they took away Rs 17,000 in cash that he had with him, along with his watch and mobile phone worth Rs 50,000.
The victim later managed to escape and filed a complaint with the police, who swung into action and arrested three of the seven accused.
It is said that a woman, who is yet to be arrested, is the mastermind behind the incident.
Such incidents have occured in Kasargod in the past too. In March this year, an NRI was trapped in a similar manner and seven out of 10 accused were arrested.
Kasargod town police have registered a case.
