Bantwal: Married men promise marriage, rape minor girl - accused go missing

Mounesh Vishwakarma
Daijiworld Media Network – Bantwal (SP)

Bantwal, Apr 25: In an incident reeking of treachery and infidelity, two married men, belonging to the same community from which a ninth standard student they targetted hails from, took her to Madikeri and allegedly raped her. After the incident came to light on Wednesday April 23, the poor parents of the girl filed police complaint at Vittal station.

The girl had reportedly visited a shop in Vittal a few days back to recharge her cell phone. At that time, a man named Bobbekeri Basheer is said to have noted down her cell phone number, and made it a habit to call her routinely. In course of time, he earned her confidence by claiming to be in love with her, and projecting himself as an eligible bachelor. Once he became sure that the girl had trusted him completely, he drew up a plan to rape her, it is said.

Basheer called the girl at around 8.30 pm on April 18, and informed her that he would be arriving near her home. When the girl appeared on a road near her home, Basheer, overlooking her protests, made her to sit in his car. His friend, Radhukatte Basheer, who faces cases of motor bike thefts, was already seated in the car. They tactfully took the girl to a deserted spot near Madikeri and raped her there, it is alleged.

Even after returning home, Radhukatte Basheer reportedly called her on April 19, promised to marry her, invited her to his home, and raped her again. A person named Karyadi Jabbar came to know of these incidents, after which he called the girl to come with him, failing which, he threatened to kill her.

The relatives of the girl got these details after verifying the phone calls in the cell phone of the girl, and questioning her. Jabbar, who faced the ire of the girl’s relatives, succeeded in escaping from their clutches and alerting the other two culprits. Jabbar and the other two offenders have gone into hiding since then.

The girl, who is in a state of shock, is being treated in a hospital in Deralakatte. Radhukatte Basheer was put behind bars a number of times for stealing motor bikes, while the other Basheer had been manhandled by the people many a time for eve teasing. It is tragic that the poor girls, in spite of learning about such incidents through the media and other sources, continue to fall prey to the wicked plans of such anti-social elements.

Looks like you forgot that the age of the girl is 14 which is below the age of consent. So it is statutory rape no matter what. Time you learnt this.

Very sad in spite of several similar incidents, the young girls still trust these fake lovers and fall into their net. Young boys & girls, please share your problems with your parents/teachers or else with your siblings/friends.

You can not always expect the poor people to supervise their children as their priority to make both end meet.

By your comments, you are 50% supporting the culprits.

Because of such attitude crime is growing.

Even if the girl is vulnerable, is it not the responsibility of these married men to advise her on the right path.

There are good people. But, they are voiceless against these criminals and their supporters.

In future, be 100% in condemning all criminal activities.

Crimes of rape are on the increase. The culprits should be severely death with and suitably punished.

In order that instances like these do not occur in the future, young girls should be advised by the parents and most particularly the mothers to be alert and not to be taken in by the perpetuaters of crime.

Even in schools the teachers should play their roles by specially guiding the students and more particularly the young girls.

Mr. Prabhu, your sarcasm clearly shows your way of thinking. While I agree totally that politicians are playing dirty politics in kabeer's shootout, chaddis are playing more politics in it by naming Kabeer as a cattle thief. If he is a thief, by now there would have been a complaint against him by people who have lost their cattle. Why no cattle theft case hasn't been registered on that day or next day by any around that area? And you're relating each and everything to compensation amount. Well, people will understand when it happens to some of their know. We want to know the truth first about Kabeer's death. Money can't really rectify the damage done.

Where were those 'responsible' ministers and people when cyanide Mohan mercilessly raped and killed more than 20 women promising them marriage? You seem to be interested in pointing at a community rather than blaming the crime. Come out from well please!

not sure , how this can happen. Someone calling the girl out at 8.30 PM and girl comes out ? Where were parents then ? They tactfully took the girl to a spot near Madikeri. How can this happen ? why the girl joined them in the car ? Where were parents then ? after all these crimes on the girl, Basheer calls her next day invites her to his home and the girl goes. why she went again. No wonder he raped her. I am not sure whether this can be a true story ? When the girl returned home from madikeri with such a bad condition, what happened ? Didn't the parents realised the crime on her ? In spite of all the tragic of the first day, second day why and how the girl made herself to go to Basheer's house ? All these questions remain unanswered...

The incident is normal except the fact that two men involved . The girl was in love and consented in a relation . But laws of the land to be followed , 15 is the age of consent for a married girl ( crpc 2013 ) . If they have had gone for marriage before any intimacy it was legal.

I hope the courts treats it as 'technical ' case where the victim is known to accused and segregates them from other brutal cases . It requires a holistic and fair approach. Bigamy is legal in particular communities and is not punishable.

    santhosh and R.Bhandarkar...

Don't take a political turn to all the happenings.. Try to understand the situation with the intention of justification.. Kabeer's case needs justice since it is cold blooded murder. Think if the same thing would have happened in our family, what would be our reaction..?? But here in the above case, these culprits should be punished. These types of cases are common nowadays in all religion.. Because there is no restrictions on serial, bad films, dirty songs etc.,
