Bhatkal: History repeats - Dead 'baby snake' found in Frooti pack

Daijiworld Media Network - Bhatkal (KK)

Bhatkal, Apr 24: In the third such incident reported in Bhatkal, a creature resembling a dead baby snake was found in a Frooti juice tetra pack here on Wednesday April 23.

On previous two occasions, dead baby snakes were found in Maa juice tetra packs in a shop and in a school in Bhatkal.

The latest incident was reported at Nishat Hospital in Bhatkal. The episode came to light after relatives of a woman who had delivered a baby came to visit her and were served sweets and Frooti juice. The patient's family had bought three cartons of Frooti juice from Siddique pharmacy. The first carton was opened and the juice was distributed.

A young girl among the visitors, identified as Razia, was given a pack and she began drinking from it, but after a few minutes she realized that though there was juice left in the pack she could not get it through the straw. The straw was removed only to find a dead reptile inside the pack. Razia started vomiting and people from the other rooms rushed to see what was going on.

As the news spread, locals also came to the hospital.

The people tried to contact the assistant commissioner, Bhatkal tahsildar and the food inspector but all the officials were out of station on April 23.

Bhatkal town PSI Subanna along with local officers arrived at the hospital.

The food inspectors of Karwar and Sirsi Vikashi Bhat and Dr Jagdeesh visited Bhatkal later and instructed the tahsildar to investigate the case.

A case has been registered.

The locals expressed shock at the incident and said that they were sorry to see such incidents happen with such a company of repute. "The company makes tall claims in its advertisements, but when such incidents take place what can people possibly do. How can we trust any packaged drink to be safe?" they said.

Last time, after the reptile was found in the Maa juice packs, the company was closed its operations in Bhatkal.

This is exactly what I was going to pass my comment in this column.I do agree with Mr.G M Hegde, Udupi, that this is a conspiracy between the rival companies to tarnish the name of well reputed company.'Why is this happening only in Bhatkal? and not in other places. How this small creature enter into the pack, when there are so many safety measures are taking place by the manufacturers. If it was found in some other places,we would have believed it to some extent, but this is happening only in Bhatkal but the question is why?.Is it because of rivalry, competition or any other kind of enemy?Thorough probe, investigation to me made in order to ascertain the actual fact.

Why is this happening only in Bhatkal of all the places in the country. I hope this is not because of competition between companies. This used to happen in ice-cream in Mumbai when competitors would send customers to target hotel and put cockroach into the half eaten ice-cream and create a scene which would result in the said company losing customer and back door entry for new brand.

I have personally come across about it where once I wanted to give one of kid a fruiti juice as it's packed juice I don't wanted give full pack to the kid so pored to a glass where I found out full of worms in to it. Once looking at it, I opened another & found the same. Thereafter, I have never brought these type of packed juice.

Dear readers,I believe this was a neat trick, someone plays foul! You know these days lots of youngsters are into these sort of things, they want to have fun at the cost of others suffering. Its impossible to find snake inside the juice, because the chemical reaction will disintegrate the snake, beside I do not think the company which packs these Juices are so careless,I have seen there are several processes including filtration. Please do not be fooled.

It is a shameful act that it repeats everynow and then.why cant they Close the Company and a thorough Investigation should be done.Who knows in how many packs are still unwanted objects hiding. The firms should get a heavy punishment. Most probably in open packets before filling ,or in Juice itself small snakes must have hid without anybodys knowledge.where Juice is since it is sweet and room is warm they had a good place to hide.Controlling inspectors are not available may be .They should be questioned first.

We have no proper food safety methods in India even after 65 years of Independence. Where is democracy ? Where is Independence? All are after money. At least strict quality control is required in respect of eatables such as condiments, soft drinks, liquors sealed food items, etc. After all, public should use food items produced in plants and not manufactured by plants.

    This is very possible.
The unhygenic process of preparing juices does allow all dirt and foreign bodies to get into juices.

This concocted juice is then filled into Tetra packs and thereafter the Tetrapack is sealed at the top.

It is not a syringing process, and therefore any matter big and small can be inside.

This is impossible unless someone has pranked, no company in the world will be so negligible , dead snake going through all the processes and finally get bottled/ packed?!! Possibility of flies/ crawling insects, etc., human hairs getting entrapped, can be envisaged! we all have had Parle products in various forms just cannot discredit a reputed brand because of allegations coming from a place of questionable integrity!

Why this type of incidents happening only from Bhatkal?
After seeing the photos of the pack/straw/object in the straw,I am constrained to suspect the issue as a creation by locals for unknown purpose.
1.Straw pipe seen in the pack with the object is not provied by the manufacturers along with the pack.
2.The object seen on the top of straw pipe looks so clean, untouched by the juice and gives a suspisciaon the object resided in the straw pipe which was exposed to open while storing in the shop.
3.The object looks like a fly vareity and not snake type which ususaly takes shelter in unused spaceslike elctrical switche holes etc.,
4.Had the object was in the inside the tetra pack, it is not possible to sail throaw the juice in the pipe so nicely.
All branded fruit juices undergo at high degree of bioling process before packing as such the seen object is unable to see a place as seen herein.A through investigation only may disclose the real picture.

Many Branded food items, Branded under garments manufactured in a slum area (like Darawi etc) and marketed by the parent company.
All apparatus is supplied by the parent company.
Either you prepare at hygienic area or unhyginic method,,,, they know people will buy because of brand.
Always better to buy in transparent pet bottles. or prepare at home.
    Nothing like home made.
    " The commercial is commercial"
THey need to cost control labour control.
There is no labours cheaper than slum area,,,,, anywhere in the World.
Please check where DAL#A manufactured and canned in Mumbai.... and whom with what medical or health condition.
    Truth is always truth.

This is very unfortunate, However, this aspect to be dealt very strict with the issue of food poisoning by CFTRI. We should always carefully check the production and expiry dates of these products before using.
A compensation by the manufacturer as per international law and practices need to be given.

Why this is happening is a very important question here and needs a high level investigation in this matter. But if this issue is a fault of the mfrs then checking the expiration date is not going to help us in any way...

Although even i agree that the expiration date has to be checked for all products before you buy..

Now,this is the second incident and reputed company like MAAAAAAAAA...O MAAAAAA not afford to hear such serious laps...The packet must be taken to a food testing lab to decide the POST MORTEM result.MAA/FROOTY should give compensation for the customer and QC department of MAAAAA must be reshuffled.Meantime,Factory must be sealed for investigation by the Food and Drug department under the new FOOD SAFETY LAW of 2006 which implemented in the year 2011 in which every food processing Copany individual should register with the Govt agency to ensure the safety of food prod
