New Delhi, Apr 23: In a historic move taken for the first time, the Supreme Court has barred entry of an advocate into the premises of the Supreme Court for six months. This decision was taken after going through investigation report on the allegation of sexual harassment made against the advocate concerned.
C S Nagesh, who hails from Karnataka, has earned the dubious distinction of facing the said ban for the first time from the Supreme Court. A Gender Sensitization and Internal Complaints Committee (GSICC) had probed the complaint of sexual harassment against the lawyer and submitted its report.
The report had recommended for placing a ban of one year on the advocate, but the Chief Justice of India, P Sadashivam, said that relaxation in the period of ban was considered in view of the fact that this step is being taken for the first time ever.
‘The report of GSICC was accepted unanimously on March 4, 2014. As this is the first instance of such an allegation against an advocate, we have showed lenience,’ the CJI said. In his March 15 order, the CJI has advised the advocate to introspect on what he had done. The registrar of the Supreme Court also issued a circular relating to this incident.
The Supreme Court had constituted GSICC last year to look into complaints of sexual harassment at work place.
