Mangalore, Apr 22: Two recovery agents of a finance company were allegedly assaulted when they went to a person's house at Bajpe to collect his loan installment. The incident took place on Tuesday April 22.
Mohammed Ali, a resident of Bajpe, allegedly assaulted Vignesh Kumar (27) and Vijesh (25), loan recovery agents at Bajaj Finance.
It is said that a loan had been taken from the finance company in the name of Ali's daughter Fathima Zohra Mumtaz to purchase a Pulsar bike. A cheque was issued to pay off the loan installment, but the cheque bounced.
The reference number given to the finance company was that of Mohammed Ali. When called to inform about the bounced checque, Ali reportedly asked the company agents to come to his house to collect the installment money.
Accordingly, Vignesh and Vijesh visited Ali's house at Bajpe on Tuesday. However, instead of giving the amount, Ali reportedly created a scene demanding to know why they called his number when the loan was in Fathima's name. He lost his temper at the recovery agents and refused to pay the amount.
Vijesh and Vignesh told him that if he does not pay the installment, he would have to face legal action and he would have to appear in court.
When they were about to leave, just as they reached the gate of the compound, Mohammed Ali ran towards them and allegedly hit Vignesh with a heavy iron rod, causing severe head injury. He also attacked Vijesh and injured his hand, it is learnt.
Vignesh was admitted to a hospital.
Bajpe police are investigating.
