Mangalore, Apr 22: Two miscreants on Tuesday April 22 smeared cow dung on the face of Suresh Bhat Bakrabail, district president of Karnataka Komu Souharda Vedike (KKSV).
The incident occurred soon after Bakrabail addressed a press meet at Hotel Woodlands on the issue of cattle trader Kabeer's death at the hands of ANF personnel in Sringeri.
After the press meet, when Bakrabail was standing around and talking with some people, two persons came inside the building, threw cow dung on his face and fled.
The KKSV members, taken aback by the sudden attack, chased the miscreants and managed to catch one of them.
The accused identified himself as Harish. The motive behind the act, or whether the act was instigated by someone else, is not yet known. However, sources said that it is suspected to be Bajrang Dal's handiwork.
Harish was handed over to Bunder police who arrived at the spot.
Sources said that Harish alias Chetan, a resident of Gurpur, works in a hospital in the city.
KKSV to hold state-level ‘Sringeri Chalo’ on April 24

Mangalore, Apr 22: "KKSV highly condemns ANF's action in killing innocent Kabeer and also the act of Bajrang Dal in attacking Kabeer's family members who had gone to Sringeri to get his body. In this regard, the KKSV will hold a state-level ‘Sringeri Chalo’ protest on April 24," said Suresh Bhat Bakrabail, district president of KKSV, addressing a press meet at Hotel Woodlands here on Tuesday.
"There are a few demands the KKSV wants to put before the government in connection to this case. They are: the ANF personnel who have committed this act must be suspended and subjected to further investigations under the direction of Human Rights Commission; all cases against the cattle traders must be withdrawn; the attackers and the leaders of their association must be booked under Goonda Act; the case must be handed over to the CBI; all the accused in this case must be booked under serious charges; and, the family of Kabeer must be suitably compensated," he said.
The programme schedule in Sringeri includes a protest march from Sringeri old bus stand to taluk office at 10 am followed by a public gathering in front of the taluk office, he said.
