Mangalore, Apr 22: "It is clear that Kabeer, who was killed in ANF shootout at Sringeri on April 19, and his companions were involved in cattle trafficking. The government must take back the compensation amount of Rs 5 lac immediately, and thorough investigation should carried out to find out the nexus between Mohiuddin Bava and cattle traffickers, and the connection between the Naxal-aided outfits which have been supporting these cattle thieves and traders," said Satyajeeth Suratkal, HJV leader.
Addressing a press meet here on Tuesday April 22, he said, "First of all, there is no legal permit for anybody to carry out cattle trafficking in the state. As per legal acts, not more than two cattle can be transported in a pick-up truck or such vehicles. Other associations who are fighting for Kabeer have stated that there were more than 20 cattle, and that itself proves that transportation was deifnitely illegal."
"As per rules, a veterinary doctor should issue a no-objection certificate (NOC) when cattle has to be transported to the slaughter house. In this case, there was no NOC. The statements with regard to the case have been taken from eyewitness Rafiq, who himself is a cattle thief," he alleged.
"Mohiuddin Bava, being a people's representative has been supporting this illegal cattle traders. A thorough investigation has to be done in this regard. Some associations have been demanding Rs 20 lac and Rs 30 lac and the government has declared compensation of Rs 5 lac just to attract minorities and nothing else. Hence the compensation announced must be withdrawn immediately," he demanded.
With regard to the attack on the family members of Kabeer who went to receive his body, Satyajeet Suratkal said, "I received information that the family members who went there to get the body misbehaved, acted rudely and rashly with the public, and as the verbal fight grew, the public assaulted them and not any association in particular.
"If all the demands put forth by Hindu Jagarana Vedike are not met, we will hold a massive protest in the coming days," he warned.
Subhash Padil, Kishore, Vasudeva Gowda, Raviraj and others were present.
