Sensex hits record high for second consecutive day


Mumbai, April 22 (IANS): A benchmark index of Indian equities markets touched a record high of 22,853.03 points Tuesday for the second straight day, surpassing new high of 22,795.58 points it touched Monday.

Good buying was observed in capital goods and oil and gas sectors, while selling pressure was seen in metal and auto sectors.

The 30-scrip Sensitive Index (Sensex) of the S&P Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 22,771.24 points, was trading at 22,795.23 points in the pre-noon session, up 30.40 points or 0.13 percent from the previous day's close at 22,764.83 points.

The Sensex touched a high of 22,853.03 points and a low of 22,754.51 points in trade.

The S&P BSE capital goods index gained 162.08 points and oil and gas index moved up by 145.68 points, while metal index dropped by 96.23 points and auto index slipped by 45.86 points.

The wider 50-scrip Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) was trading flat at 1.05 points or 0.02 percent up at 6,819.30 points.
