Udupi, Apr 21: In association with the youth commission of the Udupi Diocese a concert ‘Prajoth D’Sa Live,’ was organized on Easter, Sunday April 20 at the Mother of Sorrows Church campus, Udupi.
After singing for more than 35 Konkani albums and bringing out maiden hit album ‘Udi Udi,’ known as Sonu Nigam of Coastal Karnataka Prajoth D’Sa of Kallianpur, son of Peter D’Sa and Lilly Nazareth performed live for the first time during his maiden concert.
The youth commission led by its director, Fr Edwin D’Souza with its ICYM, YCS, and YSM units organized this mega event. Msgr Anil D’Souza Vicar Forane of Kundapur Deanery welcomed the gathering. Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, Bishop of the Udupi Diocese, Msgr Baptist Menezes, Vicar General of the diocese, Fr Fred Mascarenhas, Fr Valerian Mendonca, Fr Denis D’Sa, Fr Chetan Capuchin, Fr Stany B Lobo, Fr Rocky D’Souza, Fr Clement Mascarenhas, Fr Norbert Furtado, other priests and nuns were present for the concert.
The youth commission’s hand book was released by Fr Baptist Menezes and he later spoke during the occasion. The bishop felicitated Prajoth D’Sa while the parents of Prajoth were present on the dais.
The bishop during his address said that Prajoth had many talents, especially in singing which he had noticed during the Holy Week liturgies in the Milagres Cathedral choir. He conveyed his wishes to Prajoth and his parents. Meanwhile the youth commission director Fr Edwin D’Souza spoke on behalf of the commission and distributed mementos to the priests and few others to acknowledge their support in conducting the mega event. Prajoth presented mementos to those who supported the event including the bishop and priests.
Another contributor for the development of the Konkani language, Eric Ozario was also present during the occasion. The youth commission as well as Prajoth honoured Eric Ozario with a memento.
Prior to the concert, Fr Mahesh D’Souza of Milagres introduced Prajoth. Fr Fred Mascarenhas, the dean of Udupi inaugurated the mega event by playing the drums. This maiden concert unplugged the songs in a Konkani show and for the first time featured Prajoth’s super hit number ‘Tuzo Mog Maka Zala’ and other songs from ‘Udi Udi.’
Apart from Prajoth, the show also featured award winning singers like Vinay Lewis of Kallianpur, Jyothsna Fernandes, Eden D’Sa and Meghana Saldanha; backed vocals by Waylon Machado, Rhea D’Souza, Karren Sequiera and Shiny Rodrigues from Kallianpur; Aenson Mathias, Gladson Pinto and Sayani Fernandes from Thottam.
Seasoned musicians like Dolvin Mendonca and Stevan Frank were on the key board, Coy Carvalho on the drums, Ronald Coates on the lead guitar and Loyson Corda of Shirva on the bass.
Meanwhile, an auction for the beautiful Easter cake was conducted and was auctioned at a supportive price of Rs 10,500.
The stage programme was compeered by Roshan Sequiera of Kuntal Nagar and Teena Machado of Udyavara. The concert was compeered by the youth commission animator in chief Leslie Aroza of Thottam and the vote of thanks was proposed by Waylen Machado, the secretary of ICYM Udupi diocese. During the concert, a short quiz was conducted and prizes were distributed. Mementos were given to the donors who supported the show.
Prajoth D’Sa is a young, versatile and dynamic talent Konkani music has today. Prajoth, a young singer recently let out new waves on Konkani music with his debut album ‘Udi Udi’ which was an instant hit with record braking sales. It was a rare experiment of blending ten different genres of modern music from around the globe into the rich legacy of Konkani which received tremendous response from the listeners.
The concert concluded with baila; the youths participated in the baila and danced to the tunes of Prajoth, Vinay and others.
