Udupi, Apr 21: In association with the youth commission of the Udupi Diocese a concert ‘Prajoth D’Sa Live,’ was organized on Easter, Sunday April 20 at the Mother of Sorrows Church campus, Udupi.

After singing for more than 35 Konkani albums and bringing out maiden hit album ‘Udi Udi,’ known as Sonu Nigam of Coastal Karnataka  Prajoth D’Sa of Kallianpur, son of Peter D’Sa and Lilly Nazareth performed live for the first time during his maiden concert.

The youth commission led by its director, Fr Edwin D’Souza with its ICYM, YCS, and YSM units organized this mega event. Msgr Anil D’Souza Vicar Forane of Kundapur Deanery welcomed the gathering. Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, Bishop of the Udupi Diocese, Msgr Baptist Menezes, Vicar General of the diocese, Fr Fred Mascarenhas, Fr Valerian Mendonca, Fr Denis D’Sa, Fr Chetan Capuchin, Fr Stany B Lobo, Fr Rocky D’Souza, Fr Clement Mascarenhas, Fr Norbert Furtado, other priests and nuns were present for the concert.

The youth commission’s hand book was released by Fr Baptist Menezes and he later spoke during the occasion. The bishop felicitated Prajoth D’Sa while the parents of Prajoth were present on the dais.

The bishop during his address said that Prajoth had many talents, especially in singing which he had noticed during the Holy Week liturgies in the Milagres Cathedral choir. He conveyed his wishes to Prajoth and his parents. Meanwhile the youth commission director Fr Edwin D’Souza spoke on behalf of the commission and distributed mementos to the priests and few others to acknowledge their support in conducting the mega event. Prajoth presented mementos to those who supported the event including the bishop and priests.

Another contributor for the development of the Konkani language, Eric Ozario was also present during the occasion. The youth commission as well as Prajoth honoured Eric Ozario with a memento.

Prior to the concert, Fr Mahesh D’Souza of Milagres introduced Prajoth. Fr Fred Mascarenhas, the dean of Udupi inaugurated the mega event by playing the drums. This maiden concert unplugged the songs in a Konkani show and for the first time featured Prajoth’s super hit number ‘Tuzo Mog Maka Zala’ and other songs from ‘Udi Udi.’

Apart from Prajoth, the show also featured award winning singers like Vinay Lewis of Kallianpur, Jyothsna Fernandes, Eden D’Sa and Meghana Saldanha; backed vocals by Waylon Machado, Rhea D’Souza, Karren Sequiera and Shiny Rodrigues from Kallianpur; Aenson Mathias, Gladson Pinto and Sayani Fernandes from Thottam.

Seasoned musicians like Dolvin Mendonca and Stevan Frank were on the key board, Coy Carvalho on the drums, Ronald Coates on the lead guitar and Loyson Corda of Shirva on the bass.

Meanwhile, an auction for the beautiful Easter cake was conducted and was auctioned at a supportive price of Rs 10,500.

The stage programme was compeered by Roshan Sequiera of Kuntal Nagar and Teena Machado of Udyavara. The concert was compeered by the youth commission animator in chief Leslie Aroza of Thottam and the vote of thanks was proposed by Waylen Machado, the secretary of ICYM Udupi diocese. During the concert, a short quiz was conducted and prizes were distributed. Mementos were given to the donors who supported the show.

Prajoth D’Sa is a young, versatile and dynamic talent Konkani music has today. Prajoth, a young singer recently let out new waves on Konkani music with his debut album ‘Udi Udi’ which was an instant hit with record braking sales. It was a rare experiment of blending ten different genres of modern music from around the globe into the rich legacy of Konkani which received tremendous response from the listeners.

The concert concluded with baila; the youths participated in the baila and danced to the tunes of Prajoth, Vinay and others.

All artists were on Red Bull…soaring in frenzied intensity. Enthusiasm was contagious enough to sweep the crowd throughout the performance… captivating everyone, near or far
Those who are criticizing about trivial things…clearly didn't come to enjoy “the voice” the flair, authority & stoic presence of Prajoth.Critics didn't have time for that but to augment undercurrents which are nothing but notoriously cantankerous in nature
U see in many ways, the work of a critic is stupendously easy. They risk very little yet enjoy a position over those who offer up their work & selves to their judgment. They thrive on negative criticism, which is fun to write & to read. But the bitter truth critics must face, is that in the grand scheme of things, the average piece of junk is probably more meaningful than their criticism designating it so. But there are times when a critic truly risks something & that's in the discovery & defense of the new. World is often unkind to new talent, new creations, the new needs friends..Prajoth is clearly the “new rising star“ let’s focus on that

It was an outstanding performance & display of talent considering resources & time available at their disposal… v clearly experienced something new, an extraordinary performance from a singularly unexpected source. To say that both Prajoth & team have challenged our preconceptions about maiden performance is a gross understatement. They have rocked us to our core

Not everyone can become a great artist but a great artist can come from anywhere. It is difficult to imagine more humble origins than those of the genius Prajoth is,who is, in my opinion, nothing less than the finest performer in this part of the world

When criticism dies down, all that lingers is the fragrant music & magical voice of heartthrob, Prajoth. The voice stays with u
Before it's too late or beyond reach, wouldn't think twice b4 treasuring an Autograph of this Indian version of Enrique.

Derick, you must be Prajoth's Best Friend. But your writing has shown how small brain you have in you. Good, keep it up. Because of the brains like yours, Konkanni and Konkanni Live shows have remained wherever they are, no matter you try to bring about a 'difference'. Still a Frog-in-the-well Attitude. Gotta grow up, seriously. Another thing is Jealousy. The moment Mangalorean artists leave Jealosy on one onother, Konkanni will grow. Groupism, bitching, and trying to let each others down, politics are the highlighted things. And some with little recognition, they think they are the top Konkanni Artists on Earth. So however you write, will be of no use. Konkanni will remain wherever it is. Late WIlfy Rebimbus was the only Konkani Artist , one and only Artist who was no less than a Saint.

First of all I thank Prajoth for putting up such a nice show. I can surely count it among the best shows ever in Konkani when it comes to presentation and style. All the other shows are stereotyped and monotonous.
And the thing about felicitations and mementos, it is Prajoth's FIRST show and it is his duty to remember the people who have helped him and by this the stage programme is obvious to be a little long. Nowhere in the future will he get to publicly thank his dear ones. In the future shows I am sure it will be more of music and less talk.

About the MC, for me the MC did his best. Since most of the people have seen him just in weddings, they refer him as wedding MC. But you need guts to host a show like this. And he HAS it.

Regarding getting professional singers.I felt Prajoth has done a right job by giving chance to the new talents like he did in the CD. and I agree Live singing is always hard when compared to recordings. But what counts is the way audience take it.

The dance for Tuzo Mog Maka Zala did look indecent for few but at the same time was an attempt to get something new. I felt that could be avoided but it was not that BAD.

Prajoth was awesome in his performance and singing. His style rocked the show this time. I have seen him in shows earlier but he was never so good. He totally stole the show. I could hear youth, especially girls shouting out "ONCE MORE" during the songs UDI UDI and Tuzo Mog Maka Zala. That proves that he makes a difference.

Vinay was undoubtedly good. I liked the way Prajoth mentioned during the unplugged session about him and thanked him. Both are simple and humble. God bless them.

The musicians were rock solid. Perfect lineup for those kind of songs. Especially the unplugged session got me goosebumps. the way they re-arranged those beautiful songs. Kudos to Prajoth and team.

Mistakes are usual. There are no shows without flaws. I wish Prajoth all the very best. You are the best talent Konkani has today. Rock on guys.

Yes your points are certainly right. It was a good show but some things here and there didn't look fine, especially the dance played for the Tuzo Mog Zala. It looked very romantic but there was less coordination and the female couldn't manage to perform well. Secondly Prajoth could have also ed some quality singers who can sing well. Vinay did well and it was not at all a bad show. Wish you all the best.

Congratulations dear Prajot and team. As already commented by annu ...Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new ! positive and negative comments help us to correct our mistakes in the future. No doubt prajot , vinay , eden and all other singers are well talented ..but when you sing live you should pay attention to the songs which are mixed with special effects ...some singers who sang in the cd sound excellent but when they sang live it was a bit off . Secondly the dance for tuzo mog maka zala lacked proper ution ..although your artists have tried to imitate reality shows ..the act was very indecent and improperly uted..I hope these things are taken care in the future. Wishing you all the best dear Prajot and all other singers ...

First to put things straight show had shown lots of efforts by Prajoth and Party kudos, but of course it did not unfold in the way it was much hyped about yet way to go and no one can deny Prajoth has a talent in him and I applaud him for his efforts and spirit. What intrigues me here the reaction of readers there is a video here and the points for improvement of the show given by certain audience should be taken in the right spirit of course they have given it in a very constructive way. I too felt certain things should have been improved keeping intact the pitch and scale to make it better after all it's a musical show.

Some numbers had indeed come out well, but certain songs could have been improved. Points of readers about felicitation and lukewarm talk should be considered. As the audience sit and watch the show are of every age, even the point given here to include blend of professional and budding talents also sounds reasonable. Comm on guys take the suggestions given for improvement in right spirit Which will improve further performance. Let us also be open for suggestions for improvement and not downplay it citing quotations as artists are not drawn with paint brush but they are chiseled for perfection. Good Prajoth. Hope to see you On larger platforms.

Don’t criticize what you don’t understand, son. You never walked in that man’s shoes~Elvis Presley
Not everyone has a chance and talent to prove their talents thou they have talent to criticise others. If people can't respect and appreciate a young talent please don't criticise
and discourage.Giving views and opinions are good, but judging others talents based on not knowing if we are perfect in such things is not right.
Prajoth and team you did an awesome job.Keep going and do not worry about what people comment here cause empty vessels makes the loudest noise.Keep goin team and have a bright future ahead.

My views on Victor D'souza's comments:

    1. MC Spoke more than required, he could have cut short. He was repeatedly saying the same thing again and again.

    2. Agree that felicitation had to be reduced, but the show was organised by youth group not directly by Prajoth so the formalities took its turn.

    3. Agree that for high profile shows professional singers have to be arranged, at least average singers but who will produce or invest for the professional singers ? Even people wont be ready to spend RS 100 for a konkani show. This is Prajoth's maiden show and for me it looked good and he has done it with the enough resources and support he had. Prajoth will do better in the future for sure. Good luck to him.

The live event of Prajoth D'Sa on the UStream was clear and audible as I logged on to my computer via daijiworld. As Fr. Menezes said in his speech "...as this is first live show, we expect a few errors here and there...". Overall show has been excellent. The entire group is talented and show is really successful.

This is in reply to mr. Victor dsouza s feedback
    1. Where can you find a professional non wedding type MC to host a konkani music show.? I feel every new comer deserves a chance to prove his or her ability.
    2. Agree.
    3. Momentos and felicitations don't mean anything for the dumb audience. But will surely encourage these musicians who put in their heart and soul in their compositions. Not to forget the pride of their near and dear ones.
    4. Define professionalism. Every highly professional singer has attained that level by starting somewhere at a less professional level.
5.when a singer has organized this huge show to show case his talent , Bringing in other established singers might undermine his efforts. People should learn to appreciate young budding artists and encourage them to come up with their own shows.

Very good effort from young composer and singer Dsa. Show was good. If organisers do not mind, kindly accept my feedback or suggestion:
    1. Pls hire a professional MC. Wedding type MC does not suit for musical programmes.
    2. Pls always maintain, talk less and more music
    3. reduce felicitation and memento to every tom dick and harry
    4. make it professional.
    5. Giving chance to new singers is good efforts, at the same time, pls make sure that you have known and professional singers, so the show will be balanced one.
