Udupi: Sridhar Shetty murder– Family alleges police involvement

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (SP)

Udupi, Apr 21: A person named Sridhar Shetty from Muratakadi in Herga village near here had been beaten to death on April 18. The family of Shetty have now alleged that police personnel had facilitated this murder.

Shetty had objected to the use of his land for the transportation of sand mined from the banks of River Swarna in Herga village through his land. Allegedly, Prashant Shetty, Ashok Shetty, and Gunakar Shetty from Herga had bludgeoned Sridhar Shetty to death relating to this dispute. The police claim that so far they have not been able to locate the whereabouts of these three accused.

Relatives of the deceased claim that a policeman, who earlier worked in Manipal police station and is presently posted to a police station in Kaup circle, had guided the accused to execute this murder plan. They also claim that another policeman too was in constant touch with the accused. ‘The accused got admitted into the government hospital at the advice of these police personnel for executing this murder plan. The accused fled from the hospital as soon as they got information from these police personnel that the person they had attacked had died,’ the family members of Sridhar Shetty allege.

When investigating officers were contacted about the allegation of involvement of policemen in the crime, they claimed they are not certain if any policemen were involved or whether any information as claimed was passed on by their personnel. They said investigation is continuing and that persons found to be guilty would be proceeded against.

Sand mining is a big racket around Swarna and Sita rivers of Udupi district.Due to booming real estate business and increased construction activity, sand price is skyrocketing. There is good demand for sand removed from the back waters because after rainy season water turns salty upto higher strata.Million tons of sand already removed jeopardizing entire ecosystem.Irony is the people involved in this business are either goons or backed by some goonda's.People from UP,Bihar,Orissa employed everywhere due to the shortage of local labourers. It is paining to see sand removal by destroying mother nature.I feel pity for the deceased family.Top police officers have to investigate this case in an unbiased way.All culprits must be punished.Hope higher authorities take up this case otherwise every proof will be destroyed or manipulated.
