Kundapur, Apr 21: The rider of a motor bike was tossed on to the road after a pickup truck hit his vehicle at around 11.45 pm on Sunday April 20. In this unfortunate accident, which occurred near Surgeon Hospital at Hangalur in the town on national highway 66, the bike rider lost his life on the spot. The deceased has been identified as Chandrashekhar Shetty (39), son of Korgi Srinivas Shetty, a resident of Sunnari village in the taluk.

Shetty worked as a waiter in Foodmark Bar and Restaurant located at Basrur Junction in the town. After being on leave for three days, he had reported back for duties on Sunday. After his duty hours, he was moving home in his Yamaha motor bike from his workplace, when tragedy struck within a short distance from his workplace.

When Shetty was moving through the Surgeon Hospital, his vehicle hit the rear side of a pickup truck moving ahead. The truck was carrying air-conditioner spare parts to a resort in Kerala from Karwar, it is learnt. Chandrashekhar, who was tossed away in front of the pickup truck due to the impact of the collision, died due to excessive bleeding on the spot, as his head banged against the road. Shetty is survived by mother, wife, and two children.

Immediately after coming to know of the accident, Udupi deputy superintendent of police, Prabhudev Mane, and local police circle inspector, P M Diwakar, rushed to the spot, and made arrangements for the resumption of normal traffic. The mortal remains of Shetty were taken to the mortuary of the government hospital here.

The 108 ambulance of the government did not arrive at the spot even after 30 minutes since its services were summoned. The policemen had to hire an ambulance belonging to a private hospital here for transporting the body after a long wait. The government ambulance arrived just after the body was transported, and the people present at the spot gave vent to their ire at the lethargy of the staff manning the government’s ambitious 108 ambulance service.

OMG.What case and why?Our RTO is still in deep slumber in spite of all these accidents. Why can't they implement stringent traffic rule and law.First of all they have curb speed limit, reckless and rash driving.Punishment should be stringent for the offenders.Blood money should be given to the family of the victim. If they want, they can do many things. But they are not interested.May God grant eternal peace to the departed soul and pray almighty god for the speedy recovery of the injured.
