Kundapur, Apr 21: In an accident which occurred on Sunday April 20 evening on national highway 66 at Kirimanjeshwar in the taluk, one person died, while a woman and her two children suffered injuries. Two vehicles, a Maruti Suzuki Ritz car, and a truck, were involved with this accident.
Mujeeb (42), who was in the car, lost his life. His wife, Naseema (35), and her two children, were injured.
Mujeeb was from Malpe near Udupi. He had been to Golihole near Byndoor along with wife and children for inviting a relative for the marriage function of one of his kins. He was returning to Malpe, when a truck, which was moving towards Honnavar from Mangalore, rammed into the car at great speed. The driver of the truck, it is said, was trying to overtake another vehicle, when his vehicle swerved to extreme right, causing the accident. The right portion of the car was badly mangled in the accident.
Mujeeb, who had been grievously injured in the accident, was rushed to a private hospital in Manipal. However, he did not respond to treatments, and breathed his last within hours. Naseema and her two children stand admitted into a private hospital in the town. A case was registered in this connection at Byndoor police station.
