Udupi, Apr18: A resident of Muratakadi on Friday April 18 was found murdered near his residence after he was brutally attacked by a group led by his neighbor.

Shridhar Shetty (65) developed a grudge against his neighbor, Prashant Shetty after Prashant stopped paying money for the transportation of sand that was mined from the Swarna river and had to pass through his privately owned land. The sand was transported from the place for the past 25 years. It was learnt that the sand transportation was stopped by Shridhar demanding money for the supply to continue.

Agitated by the inconvenience that disrupted transportation, Prashant along with his friend Ashok Shetty attacked Shridhar. However, his wife, Leelavati rushed to the spot along with her daughter Jyoti. Succumbing to the injuries the latter died after he informed his wife about the murderers.

Assailants had fled from the spot when his wife hurried to the spot.

A complaint has been registered in connection to the murder at Manipal police station. Sources say that there was no intention of killing, but the attack was carried out to scare the person to agree for amicable deal. The assailants earlier got admitted to the government hospital at Ajjarakadu, but learning that Shridhar was dead they absconded from the vicinity.

According to the sources, a police personnel working at Manipal station informed the attackers about the death and advised to vacate the place.

Vittal, It is inappropriate to write "Fed Up" at this juncture, when a daughter has lost her father. I don't think Mr. Shridhar Shetty was wrong in asking for money as the sand miners were using his land to transport the sand. The sand mafia makes a huge money by illegal mining!

What do you mean? There should be police personnel around every house? Don't blame the police. It is greed of the people for money and power results in crime. Now one man is dead and other one will go to jail. It is our legal system to be blamed. There are lawyers who will defend the murderer and all murderers will be inspired to do murders.

@ S.Poojary Mangalore,It cant be called greedy for the Money when someone goes through the a private land that too sand carrying lorrys day in and day out without paying Money. No one will allow it without permission to make Business. And the Police personnel who informed the murderers about death, but to slip away from there should also be punished severely. He was supposed to Keep secrets ,but he didn't.money must have played a big role here.Heartfelt sympathies to the familyy.

It is sad affair and inhumane act by the neighbors of the deceased. That is called sand mafia and money power.Any action? no action being taken on the attacker.Even if they are caught, will be put under bar for two days as eye wash, then be released because of money, political power. Now who is the loser,Shridhar Shetty.Who has to face the problems, difficulties wife and daughter of the deceased.May his departed soul rest in peace.
