Udupi, Apr18: A resident of Muratakadi on Friday April 18 was found murdered near his residence after he was brutally attacked by a group led by his neighbor.
Shridhar Shetty (65) developed a grudge against his neighbor, Prashant Shetty after Prashant stopped paying money for the transportation of sand that was mined from the Swarna river and had to pass through his privately owned land. The sand was transported from the place for the past 25 years. It was learnt that the sand transportation was stopped by Shridhar demanding money for the supply to continue.
Agitated by the inconvenience that disrupted transportation, Prashant along with his friend Ashok Shetty attacked Shridhar. However, his wife, Leelavati rushed to the spot along with her daughter Jyoti. Succumbing to the injuries the latter died after he informed his wife about the murderers.
Assailants had fled from the spot when his wife hurried to the spot.
A complaint has been registered in connection to the murder at Manipal police station. Sources say that there was no intention of killing, but the attack was carried out to scare the person to agree for amicable deal. The assailants earlier got admitted to the government hospital at Ajjarakadu, but learning that Shridhar was dead they absconded from the vicinity.
According to the sources, a police personnel working at Manipal station informed the attackers about the death and advised to vacate the place.
