Channapatna, Apr 18: In a gruesome incident, a girl child who was a year and a half old was killed by her parents who fled from the spot immediately after burning the child on Friday April 18.

This inhuman incident was reported at the old school toilet near the Bangalore-Mysore road in Doddamallur village in Channapatna taluk.

The villagers rushed to the spot immediately after they noticed smoke in the school yard. They instantly informed the police who rushed to the spot, doused the fire and took half burnt remains of the child into custody.

Incident Report

From the past three days, the Haki Piki tribal couple was residing in the outskirts of the village in the school premises along with their eight year son and one and a half year old daughter. The locals informed that the couple often used to have disputes. On Friday afternoon after killing their daughter, they asked for pickaxe from a nearby house so that they could bury the child. When the nearby residents refused to give the pickaxe, they burnt the child using old tyres in a toilet and fled from the spot in an auto rickshaw. This heartrending incident came to light when the locals visited the spot after noticing smoke in school yard.

Rural police station police sub inspector Venkatesh along with his staff rushed to spot, examined the incident and registered a complaint. The villagers who came to the spot after knowing about the brutal incident suffered mental trauma.

No proper information

The parents who killed their own daughter were not localities. The couple was seen in that area just about three days ago; hence the locals have no clue about them. The police did not get proper information because the parents who committed this crime were migrants. They police is investigating the case and are trying their best to arrest the culprits for committing this gruesome crime.

What a painful and gruesome murder.

The toddler's soul no doubt is in heavenly abode with the angles.

How long these parents can be on the run? How long they can hide from the law of the land. Nevertheless, the cry of the innocent child (angle) and the curse of their inhuman act may not let them live in peace, rest of their life.

If sick, they should have taken her to the nearby Govt. Hospital. Perhaps some good Samaritan in the locality would have helped them. What happened is very sad and horrible.

Many say, "Thayiye Devaru", but there are so many mothers I have seen that they like only their sons and hate daughters, even today in our own community.

I hope you are not suggesting that if it is not their 'own' child, then it is understandable they killed it. If so, it is not a very good way of thinking.

Every human life is precious more so that of innocent children, whoever their parents may be.

These parents should be punished in such a way that no other parent would dare to commit a crime like this. Our judiciary is useless. It protects the murderers. We can't think of becoming superpower with this rate of crime and corruption.

In rural India as well as with the poor in Urban areas the 'girl child' is considered to be a liability and a financial burden. One reason is the dowry system at the time of a girl's marriage.
I am not certain if that is true in this particular case.
However, this is not uncommon and I believe most cases do not even get reported.
Lack of education and living with old beliefs and customs are to blame.
    Very sad state of affairs.

In spite of all the talk of economic progress and competing with China etc.etc. I must confess we are 'socially' a very, very backward nation in this and a lot of other matters too.
