SEVA will be celebrating its fifth successful anniversary through its annual cultural celebration on April 20, the Easter Sunday at Holy Family Church grounds, Brahmavar.
True to its reputation of being innovative, this year SEVA is introducing another novelty in bringing the best out of Brahmavar’s hidden talents. SEVA has decided to dedicate the evening to the Father of Konkani music, the late Wilfy Rebimbus. SEVA’s 5th anniversary bash ‘Suryachya Kirnani’ would be a glorious tribute to Konkan Kogull who has left a great musical legacy behind.

It was about five years ago that a few creative and like-minded young, brave hearts of Brahmavar came together with a dream of creating a united society that stands by each and everyone at every given situation and circumstance, a society that yearns for the betterment of each individual irrespective of diverse social, religious, economical barriers. The dream was to bring Brahmavarites spread across the globe under one platform, explore and showcase their talents through Service and Entertainment. The Vision was to set the idea of ‘United Brahmavar’ in Action. And this burning desire to do something unique and creative to foster unity and celebrate fraternal bonds gave birth to SEVA (Service - Entertainment - Vision - Action) Spirit in 2010. SEVA took a twin-pledge to reach out and unite Brahmvarites through innovating measures and prominent among them was the launching of www.Brahmavar.com. The focus was to tap and channel the tremendous energies of the youth of Brahmavar to build a better society.
SEVA’s annual cultural programmes have been the talk of the town and every year the Brahmavarites eagerly wait for SEVA to announce their cultural bash and SEVA has never disappointed them. After hosting a couple of successful annual entertainment programmes with the help of guest artistes, SEVA came up with a novel idea of recognizing and showcasing the hidden talents of some of the talented singers and dancers from Brahmavar through ‘Liplolim Taram’ in 2013. The programme held on the Easter evening was mainly aimed at unearthing hidden talents and providing them platform showcasing their talents. It was a roaring success and added another sparkling feather to the already glittering cap of SEVA.
Wilfy was and is the shining sun of Konkani whose sparkling rays in the form of his music have reached and touched lacs of Konkani-speaking people. His immortal compositions have encouraged young and old to keep the light of Konkani alive in their families and lives
It was Wilfy who brought rays of hope and innovation to Konkani music and language with his incomparable lyrics and memorable compositions. His songs have attained a cult status and even those who do not speak and write Konkani in their day-to-day life, like the ones who have settled in Mumbai and in the Gulf long ago, too are great fans of Wilfy’s songs. This not only shows Wilfy’s popularity in Konkani but also reminds us about the hard work that he put in and tireless efforts that he took up in giving new dimension to Konkani music. SEVA collectively felt that it is its bounden duty to pay tribute this legend and decided to dedicate its fifth anniversary to him.
‘Suryachya Kirnani’ will be an evening of Wilfy’s songs which will be presented by Brahmavar’s talented singers. The evening will also consist of dances and hilarious skits. Special Salsa and Jive performances by dancers from Brahmavar who have been trained by ace Latino dance master Arjun from Mangalore, will be another attraction of the super Sunday.
SEVA has also been recognising and honouring exceptionally-gifted individuals who have brought name and fame to Brahmavar through their works. This year Kishore Gonsalves, fondly known as Kishoo Barkur in Konkani circles will be felicitated. SEVA will be honouring Kishoo for his outstanding work in Konkani and specially for being one of the Top-3 Nominees for the Best Lyricist Award at the recently held Global Konkani Music Awards.
SEVA has always been supported and encouraged by good-hearted generous individuals and organizations who have immense belief in building a united society. People who have seen SEVA and its work from close quarters have been the backbone of SEVA’s mission. SEVA on its part has always done justice to the contribution received by them and have utilised each penny judiciously respecting the hard work of the benefactors. This year too SEVA is seeking the help of generous people to realise its dreams and fulfil its promises.
