Dubai, Apr 16: Under the aegis of the recently instituted Old Students Association of SMS Brahmavar group of educational institutions in UAE, a function was organized on Friday April 11 at the hall of Fortune Plaza Hotel, Al Qusais here, where past students of these illustrious educational institutions paid rich tributes to their teachers.
The programme began with the meaningful Kannada prayer, 'Yelli Mana Kalukirado', which used to be the prayer song of the institution several decades back. President of SMS Old Students Association, Anush Hegde, welcomed the guests and participants at the outset.
Principal of SMS College, K Narayanan, who was the chief guest, along with a team of his colleagues, who had specially flown in to the Gulf region for gracing the occasion, officially symbolized the inauguration the Old Students Association by lighting the lamp.
General secretary of the association, Roshan Shetty, presented a report of the activities, aims, and objectives of the association. Ganesh Rai, one of the patrons of the educational institution, wished the association a meaningful future. He paid rich tributes to chief editors of web-based sites like Daijiworld.com, Mangalorean.com, Gulf Kannadiga, Kannadiga World, Newskarnataka, Sahilonline, and Vishwakannadiga News for extending support to the fledgling organization. He also called upon the members of the association to be ever be grateful to the educational institutions which had instilled in them the power of knowledge and character.
Past students of SMS Brahmavar were witness to this memorable event, where lofty values which build relationships between teachers and students were seen in abundance. Such events can provide guiding principles to the new generation.
SMS College principal, K Narayanan, vice principal, Dr H V Somayaji, professors, Susheela Rai, G Balakrishna Shetty, Chandrashekhar Hegde, and Thomas Suaris couple, who had earlier been working as teaching staff in SMS PU College and have recently shifted base to Dubai and serving there as teachers, were felicitated by draping shawls around them, and presenting flowers, fruits, and citations. First ever student of SMS School, Robert Sequeira, was also honoured. All the members of the association's executive committee joined together in according this felicitation.
Principal, K Narayan, responding to the felicitation, wished the entire community of old students of the institution the very best, and appreciated their gesture in upholding Indian values and leading honourable life in spite of holding top posts in the Gulf region. He also outlined the plans and projects the institution has undertaken in the recent past, and expressed gratitude for the affection and respect showered by the old students, who have been immensely contributing to the growth of the institution.
Susheela Rai thanked everyone for extending a warm welcome to their past teachers in the Gulf region and honouring them here.
Thomas Suaris, besides extending best wishes to each one of the persons present in the auditorium that was brimming with past students of SMS, called upon the students to always be thankful to the institutions which gave them education, and to take steps to reinforce their bond with these institutions.
On this occasion, bouquets were presented to Kiran Neerkan, representative of Newskarnataka.com, and Vinay Nayak of Namma TV.
In the concluding part of the function, all the old students were administered with a pledge in the presence of their past teachers, to always conserve their honesty, respect, and bond with their educational institutions, and to be shine as guiding examples for the new generation.
Anush Hegde proposed vote of thanks. Victoria Suares presented the programme in a beautiful manner. The old students, who met at a tea party arranged at the end, refreshed their memories by sharing anecdotes from their school life.
