Mangalore, Apr 15: Several places in Dakshina Kannada and Kodagu districts experienced rain coupled with thunder and lightning on the night of Monday April 14.
Dharmasthala, Ujire, Beltangady, Nelyady, Uppinangady, and Puttur received about an hour of rainfall after 8 pm. Sullia and Subramanya got moderate rainfall coupled with thunder. Some houses in Ajjavara in Sullia taluk were damaged due to fallen trees.
Cloudy weather prevailed in Mulky, Moodbidri, Bantwal and some other places. The hopes of the city residents of rainfall, which were kindled because of light drizzle at night, soon faded away.
Heavy rainfall was reported from Gonikoppal, Tittimathi, Mayamudi, Ponnampet and other places in Kodagu district on Monday. Kushalnagar and Virajpet also got good rain. The district is likely to get rain for next two to three days more.
Sunanda, wife of Koragappa Poojary from Jogibettu in Ilantila village, Uppinangady, was injured due to lightning. She was sitting inside the house when lightning that ricocheted off a coconut tree struck her. Some electronic equipments inside the house were damaged.
Power supply to a large number of villages in Puttur taluk was affected because of rain and lightning.
The meteorological department has predicted rain in most parts of Kodagu districts and a few places in Dakshina Kannada district during the next one day. Some southern inlands of Karnataka will also get rains, it said.
