Chennai, April 14 (IANS): Upcoming bilingual biopic "Ramanujan", which is about the life story of mathematics wizard Srinivasa Ramanujan, is much more than just about his genius and accolades, says actor Sarath Babu, who essays an important role in the movie.
"The film is not only about a few achievements in the life of Ramanujan. It goes beyond that and narrates the story of a real life hero, a mathematics genius and many events from his life. Audiences will appreciate the film only when they connect with the film's totality," Sarath Babu told IANS.
Debutant Abhinay Vaddi plays the titular role of Ramanujan in the film, which is simultaneously being made in Tamil and English.
Sarath is all praise for the young actor, who is the grandson of legendary Tamil actor Gemini Ganeshan.
"He struggled extremely hard to prepare for the role. For a debutant to reprise the role of a national hero in his debut film is not easy. He is a polished actor and has inherited the talent from his grandfather," he added.
Biopics are usually tagged as 'award-winning' films, but Sarath said, "Ramanujan" will be liked by the critics as well as the audience because it's "a very realistic story".
"It's also a very inspiring story and that's one of the reasons why I think audiences will find this film interesting," he added.
Sarath, who has starred in over 100 films over the years, even has plans of donning the director's hat.
"I have plans to direct, but I don't know when it will happen. I'm hoping it happens soon but for now I want only concentrate on acting," he said.
The veteran actor has starred with some southern superstars such as Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth in films such as "Sagara Sangamam" and "Muthu", respectively.
Directed by Gnana Rajasekaran, "Ramanujan" also features Suhasini Maniratnam, Bhama, Anmol, Abbas, Radha Ravi, Y.G Mahendran and Manobala in important roles.
"Ramanujan" is produced by Camphor Cinema.
