Mumbai, April 14 (MD): In its bid to cater to the peak-hour traffic in the morning as well as evening, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has decided to extend the Monorail timings to 14 hours a day from 6 am to 8 pm from April 15.
“As per the extended schedule, Mumbai Monorail, covering a distance of 8.83 Kms between Wadala and Chembur, will run from 6 am to 8 pm at a frequency of 15 minutes. The first train will depart at 6 am from Wadala and Chembur respectively", said Dilip Kawathkar, Joint Project Director (PR), MMRDA.
Ever since the Monorail was opened for public use on February 2, the services are run between 7 am and 3 pm at a frequency of 15 minutes.
Kawathkar said "By extending the Monorail timings to 14 hours a day, we plan to handle peak hour commuters in the morning and evening”.
On an average, presently 64 services are run, which will now increase to an average of 112 services daily.
