Mangalore, Apr 14: "At the time of filing my nomination for Lok Sabha election, details sought for therein have properly been provided. Under the head meant for income of wife, I have shown as agriculture. As agricultural income is not taxable, I have not provided details of income therein. The BJP leaders, without properly ascertaining facts, are speaking rubbish. There is no column here to provide the name and other details of the candidate’s spouse," said B Janardhan Poojary, Congress candidate from Dakshina Kannada Lok Sabha constituency.
He was hitting back at the accusations hurled against him by certain BJP leaders at a press conference held recently.
Poojary, addressing a press meet on the occasion of his election campaign at Kuppepadavu near here on Sunday April 13, asserted that being a qualified advocate, he is fully aware of the legal provisions. "I have provided all the details sought correctly. It is not right to make allegations just for propaganda. I am not a moron to make such grave mistakes. I have provided details of my income. As my wife’s earning does not attract income tax, her name was not provided, as it was not needed there," he pleaded.
"I have not sought details of Modi’s wife, nor have I claimed myself to be a bachelor like Modi. Modi is not prepared to provide details of his wife, and unlike him, I live with my wife, Malati, and people have seen me participating in various programmes along with her. My wife has not deserted me, I continue to live with her," he said. He accused Modi of not providing details of his wife’s income, in spite of the fact that she is an income tax payee. "You have failed to offer protection to your own wife, how do you propose to protect the people of the country?" he sought to know from Modi.
MLA, Mohiuddin Bava, Gurpur block Congress president, R K Prithviraj, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee backward classes wing general secretary, Neelayya M Agari, and other leaders were present.
