Kundapur, Apr 14: A deputy tahsildar on election duty for the Lok Sabha election passed away due to cardiac arrest in the town on the afternoon of Sunday April 13.
H Janardan (59), who was serving as deputy tahsildar in food and civil supplies department at the taluk office here since the last three years, died all of a sudden when in office.
The official was said to be in good health when he came to the office on Sunday morning. However, he reportedly threw up twice thereafter, following which, he reportedly consumed tablet meant to treat gastric problem and continued to work to clear heavy workload. He had attended the office in spite of it being Sunday especially for attending to pending election-related work. It is said that his blood pressure shot up because of enormous workload, and at around 1.15 pm, he suffered cardiac arrest and collapsed in the office. He breathed his last instantly.
He was then rushed to a private hospital in the town in the office vehicle, but the doctors there confirmed that he had died sometime back. His body was then shifted to the mortuary of the government hospital. After the post mortem, the body was entrusted to the relatives of the deceased official, at around 6 pm.
Officer, Yogeshwar, tahsildar, Gayatri Nayak, taluk president of Karnataka State Government Employees Association, Dinkar Shetty, other office bearers, and employees of government departments, were present.
Janardan, who was a native of Mayyadi in Byndoor in the taluk, had joined the government service in the capacity of first grade assistant at Sullia. After serving there for 14 years, he was transferred to Puttur, where he worked for an additional 11 years. Since the last three years, he had been working as the deputy tahsildar in food and civil supplies department here. He is survived by mother, wife, three sons, and a daughter.
Karnataka State Government Employees Association has expressed deep shock at the demise of Janardan while on election duty and mourned his death. Its district president, Dinkar Shetty, has urged the department and the government to disburse a special compensation package of ten lac rupees to his family as Janardan’s death came when he was discharging duties entrusted to him specially.
