Mangalore, Apr 13: Marking the commencement of the Holy Week, Christians of many denominations in the district celebrated Palm Sunday with religious fervour here on April 13.

The week culminates with Easter, which the faithful celebrate as the day Jesus Christ is believed to have risen from the dead.

Churches all over the district saw huge attendance of the faithful. They took out processions carrying palm fronds, a symbol of triumph. Many display them at their homes as a mark of their faith.

As per the Gospels, Palm Sunday signifies the “triumphant entry of Jesus Christ into the city of Jerusalem” five days before his crucifixion.

Another important day of the Holy Week is Maundy Thursday, commemorating the Last Supper of Jesus Christ with his apostles, followed by Good Friday that marks the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.

Rightly said Sunny, I too got the same impression while reading. Jesus's resurrection is a historical fact, which was professed even before Jesus was born. Easter is the biggest and the most important feast for Christians than Christmas. Wish all readers a blessed holy week.

Sorry if I am theologically wrong. As I understand and as it is mentioned in this story, Palm Sunday is a celebration of the "triumphant entry of Jesus Christ into the city of Jerusalem”. But, the main focus of the service in Church on Palm Sunday is the enactment of the passion of Christ, which gives a different mood of the day! Can someone explain why.

I am not sure if I would throw some light on your confusion. Palm sunday is also celebrated as Passion sunday. At our church in Kulur, in the morning we have procession of palms and in the evening that procession of the suffering christ. In a nutshell, on this day, we celebrate the SUFFERING KING in Jesus Christ. People wanted to make/treat Jesus as King on several other occassions in his public life. But it is only case, where Jesus allows the Triumphant entry of the KING into Jerusalem. The journey He intends here ends on the Cross on calvary. From King-size entry to Thief-like exit. This is what we celebrate on Palm/Passion Sunday. The Celebration of 'Suffering King'!

During this holy week let us all review our faith and unity in Christ. There is big difference between the way society is moving and the way our lord taught us.Our external looks, wealth, property, bank balance, cars, flats, everything fade away. What we take to lord is our deeds. We can see thousands of Lazarous around us in day to day life.Being prosperous we just ignore them.We watch more Britney Spears,Justin beeb, thrillers, serials but watch less on humanity and God.We spend A whole night in a party but hardly spend 10 minutes near a suffering bed.We bribe thousands for quick service, but spare nothing for charity.I remember the saying of Steve Jobs
"Being the richest man in the cemetery doesn't matter to me. Going to bed at night saying we've done something wonderful, that's what matters to me".
