Mangalore, Apr 12: A unique campaign was held by district incharge minister Ramanath Rai and Mangalore South MLA J R Lobo here on Saturday April 12.

The duo along with other leaders of the party visited various auto rickshaw stands and urged the drivers to vote for Congress Lok Sabha candidate Janardhan Poojary. What made the campaign unique was that the leaders, including Ramanath Rai, rode around in auto rickshaws.

This special style of canvassing was flagged off by Ramanath Rai at the RTO auto stand.

Addressing the media, Ramanath Rai said Janardhan Poojary has a lot of concern towards the poor and the working class. "Poojary earlier had a dream of making auto drivers the owners too by financially supporting them through various schemes. He also had plans of providing 90 percent of loan subsidies for purchasing autos," he said.

Santosh Shetty, T K Sudhir, Stany Alvares, Nazir Bajal, D M Aslam, Lawrence and others were present.

The campaign that was flagged off from RTO auto stand went around the city to various auto parks incuding those at State Bank, Rao and Rao circle, near Lady Goschen hospital, Central Market, Tokyo Market, Milagres, Hampankatta, Urwa Market, Urwa Store, Ladyhill, Mangala Stadium, etc and culminated at the Mangalore Central railway station auto rickshaw stand.

Ramnath rai and JRLoboo should highlight what development they did for mangalore, they raise the property tax and the common man is affected, now begging for votes.
This dombor-atta will not work, people are determined to vote for the right person and there is only one wave that is root out corruption.

Glad to see two human beings travelling in an Auto Rickshaw which is making so much news. They must continue travelling in Auto Rickshaw during rainy season, bumping through hundreds of potholes and feel the real problem of a common man.

Don’t worry, both are fit for nothing. One is already retired from all Government Services and takes pension and other one always in jungle making his kingdom over there and sleeps at Assembly Hall. Just ask them or try to meet them after the election with problem like, Rickshaw Stand, Public Toilets, etc, both would say “No time don’t come again”

During Election/ particularly campaign these politicians have enough time to spare to move with down the line citizens. Once the election is over these people does not have "Purusottu" to listen anybody's cry. This our democary, politicians and the citizens.

Many people in this forum have expressed sympathy for auto rickshaw operators on the grounds of ever increasing fuel prices where Rai/Lobo have no direct control over. Secondly, auto operators just pass the ‘burden’ on to the passengers by charging 2 to 3 times extra and no one in Mangalore goes by the fare- meter.

Poojary earlier had a dream of making auto drivers the owners. . . . We do not need dreams and promises. We need action and fulfillment of the dreams into reality. If 1% of the election ad campaigns of the National parties were to be saved, all the auto drivers could have become owners even before the elections!
