Mangalore, Apr 12: Deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada district, A B Ibrahim, who is also the returning officer for the Lok Sabha constituency, has said that steps have been taken to debit 50 percent of the expenses relating to Narendra Modi’s rally held at Kasargod on April 8, to Dakshina Kannada Lok Sabha constituency BJP candidate, Nalin Kumar Kateel’s account. He added that the election commission has appreciated this step.

Addressing a press conference at the office of the deputy commissioner here on Friday April 11, Ibrahim said that he had given information about steps taken relating to electioneering expenses and other things, during the video conference held by the elction commission with him. He said details of expenses of the said rally are being collected from Kasargod district collector and superintendent of police, and that the amount will be included in Nalin’s account once these details are received.
Relating to the charge that National Institute of Technology Karnataka campus at Suratkal was misused by BJP leader, Anant Kumar, who had held interaction with the students there, Ibrahim said that a notice had been served on Kateel in this connection, but that the reply furnished by him has been found to be not satisfactory. Therefore, it has been decided to seek his explanation again, he added.
He said that no one should question the eligibility of voters who come to cast their votes, once the presiding officer at the booth is satisfied about their identities. ‘If a person’s name is found in the voters' list, the right to vote of the persons cannot be denied even if sometimes they might appear to be less than 18,’ he advised.
Women voters in Dakshina Kannada Lok Sabha constituency outnumber the male counterpart. Likewise, women form 58 percent of the personnel deployed for election work in this constituency, he explained.
