'Protest was not against Rahul, but over attack on woman corporator'

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore

Mangalore, Apr 11: A week after the protest organised by various associations against the Congress party and its vice-president Rahul Gandhi near DC's office on April 4 when Rahul visited Nehru Maidan for election campaign, it has been clarified that the protest was not against Rahul Gandhi but against the harassment of corporator Pratibha Kulai by a group.

Dr Olinda Pereira, the 88-year-old woman activist, former principal of School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya who has always fought for women causes was one of the key personalities who attended the protest. In a letter to daijiworld, she clarified that the protest had nothing to do with Rahul Gandhi's visit.

The protest was widely covered in daijiworld with pictures and Dr Pereira began receiving several calls and enquiries from well-wishers and friends worldwide asking about her involvement in a protest that was against Rahul Gandhi's visit or Congress party.

"I was much distressed to receive calls from my friends, who wondered why I involved myself in a demonstration against Rahul Gandhi’s visit on the April 4. I wish to state that I had nothing to protest against Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Mangalore. My presence at the demonstration at the DC's office gate was only to record my indignation over the indecent and insulting manner in which a woman was treated in Kulai," she clarified in her letter.

The protest organized by DYFI, SFI, and the Forum Against Atrocities on Women saw participation from women and even men from different walks of life from aound Mangalore. The protestors raised slogans like "Go Go Rahul Go! Go Go Rahul Go!" and showed black flags to express their ire at the Congress party for not giving adequate security to women in the country.

After the Rahul rally, the protest was also given political colour due to the timing of the protest.

But senior women's activist Dr Pereira clarified that the real intention of the protest was to condemn the attack on the woman corporator in Kulai.

Another woman activist, who participated in the protest, who did not want to be named, has also voiced similar opinion saying, "My friends and I were invited to protest against the attack on Pratibha, the corporator from Kulai. We never knew that there would be shouting of slogans against Rahul Gandhi or the Congress. If it was known to us earlier, we would not have participated in the protest."

U r working in Saudi a Muslim orthodox country where christians & Hindus have no voice. But still u have got a place in Saudi being a Hindu and u r talking about conversions that is why congress is supporting christians. R u not happy in a Muslim Country with a good job. Have they told u to get out just because u r a Hindu??? So do not talk about communal politics. Just talk about clean politics who is right for the country. BJP has also looted Karnataka royally by the Bellary Reddy Brothers along with Yedurappa Reddy. Wherever BJP is there that state has been looted. So do not blame just one Party......

Some wicked people does crimes against humanity and there are people to support them and hide them from justice. But before god nothing gets hidden. so the majority of these people die suffering in deadly accidents or ill health. If u see this curse is also passed to their coming generations also.

I dont know why women activist has to answer Congress and why they have to clarify that they are not against Congress!!..then it can be understood that they are against BJP..ion of protest day nothing to do with Congress..everyone free to protest without creating problems to public..Its also surprising that old women in picture said' some of her freinds called & complained why protest against RAHUL"..Why cant against RAHUL, he is VP of Congress which ruled INDIA for 60 years, was ruling DELHI when NIRBHAYA case happened..DELHI is most dangerous state for women..as per NDTV data, 5 state which is dangerous for women all either from Congress or its allies (Non NDA state)..presently Congress ruling state..then why not protest against RAHUL!!..this sickular party appeals to IMAM BUKHARI say dont divide secular votes, vote for Congress!! does it mean it is only the secular party in INDIA!!..Messages are sent in Bishop/priest name, is not communal..two days back it is reported that Congress had taken RSS help in northern states in several election..In MP Diggy had very good rapport with RSS, when RSS started to support BJP they become communal for Diggy..Congress will create 100 MODI to get minority votes..but SDPI/PFI will make Congress sweat for minority votes in coming days..

Sisters look worried. Don't worry Sisters it must have been the hand of God which made you to protest on that day though it was not your intention. Know that there could have no moral policing by BJP as your poster says if Rahul had long back passed the anti violence bill.

At the same time, I am also with the protesters as they have raised the voice against atrocities committed to a Women City Corporator by the fringe groups in DK. Congress State govt. in DK are sleeping in spite the atrocity is done to their own women corporator. For this reason the women activists have protested.

The majority of the people are sitting in a comfort zone and writing comments based on the information on the media without knowing the real truth.

Protesting in Public is now outdated & might get out of control with hidden agendas of some groups who use Good Intentions of some well known people like Dr Olinda.
Join Change.org & sign the petitions & send them directly to the concerned.
I have done so to Rahul Gandhi regarding Keeping the Criminals out of Electoral Process, Disability Bill, Stop Moily's Monsanto Alliance.
The one with Tainted he tore apart after he received the petition & later was withdrawn, but the others were not taken up as Lok Sabha ended its term.
Hope in future these personalities would go through the organization's credentials without believing blindly their CAUSE, to avoid future bad name & heart burn.

Mr Shenava, you have understood who are these two elderly women? Can the local party leaders convey the reason of the protest to your respective national leaders? Let us not restrict our laws to the books and support to the comments and speeches. We women are the majority of the vote bank expect the candidate to give priority to the safety of women first and everything else next!!!! Thanks to Dr Olinda Pereira, Ms.Celine Aranha, Vidya Dinkar for drawing the attention of the public on the issue of Women's safety.

We all Support you Dr Pereira. You R a brave woman. How many people have the Guts to protest during Congi's meeting ?. Where is Lobo, Oscar , Rai, Pujari ? After Congis took over , Moral Policing increased and Our MLA, Lobo,Rai, Kader, Oscar and other politician did nothing for D.K. Not a single Conviction in Church Attack, Pub, Home stay assault, attempted rape, Molestation, Parks, beach's, Ice cream Parlour attacks, Udupi Cow traders Father Son Attacked and paraded nacked and all the attackers are roaming freely, Congi Govt not able to Convict a single Case. Why We have such a in-efficient Prosecution? Congi's R not even ready to file a case against Kulai Corporaters molesters. Congi's R not even protecting their own for Vote bank Politics. @ least you guys have guts to protest and Rahul should know the real picture of his Chamcha's lack of concern regarding all the Moral policing in D.K. Congi's R supporting these lower class thughs, thats why no Conviction even though We have Congi Govt . We need change and this is the chance for us to elect a accountable , Non Corrupt Govt. And efficient Police force and efficient Prosecution.
We Need Unbiased, NON Corrupt Justice system. Vote with your Brain . Its now or never. Its our Kid's future. Come out of this filth. Moral Policing is the biggest problem we have in D.K.Businesses and Students running away from D.K. We Need change and We need now or never and YES WE CAN.
