Mangalore, Apr 10: The city crime branch (CCB) police on Wednesday April 9 arrested the prime accused in the Bejai shootout case of March 10 where miscreants had entered the office of Bharathi Builders and opened fire.
The accused, Datta alias Dattatreya Tukaram Wagre (27), was arrested by the CCB police in Mumbai on Wednesday. A resident of Karad taluk in Satara district of Maharashtra, Datta is the prime accused in the case, said police.
The police recently took custody of Ganesh Laxman Saket and Mukesh Shivaji Kambli in Mumbai. One pistol, three rounds of bullets and a motorcycle used for the crime were seized from them. Also, two others, Ganesh and Hitesh from Haleangady who were the informers in the case were also arrested and priduced in the court recently.
The police also arrested Anto alias Anand Kumar of Bangalore, Abubakker Siddique of Mudipu, Nitin Kumar of Karkala and Guruprasanna of Salethur, all of them aides of Ravi Poojary and Kali Yogish in connection with the case. They too were produced in court. They were involved in collecting information and making threat calls to builders on behalf of the dons, it is said.
The police have requested the public to file a criminal case in the nearest police station as soon as they receive any threat call. Strict action will be taken against any person found to be giving money or aiding such criminals in any way, warned the police.
On the instruction of police commissioner R Hitendra, DCP (law and order) Jagadeesh and DCP (crime) Vishnuvardhan N directed the operation. CCB inspector Valentine D'Souza, Urwa police inspector Chandrashekar Maledevar, Urwa PSI Ravishankar, Barke PSI Shareef and CCB PSI Shyamsunder, and police personnel Shashidhar Shetty, Ganesh M P, Ganesh Kalladka, Venugopal Ammai, Dinesh Bekal, Mani M N, Sudhir, Jabbar, Rajendraprasad and Teja Kumar were part of the operation.
