Mangalore, Apr 9: Special cell of police from New Delhi arrived at the airport here on Tuesday April 8 afternoon along with suspected terrorists, Tehseen Akhtar alias Monu, and a Pakistani national, Zia-Ur-Rehman alias Waqas. The suspected terrorists were taken to various places in connection with investigation of their roles in terrorist activities. The local police extended cooperation to the team in these investigation.
The New Delhi team comprising eight officers was led by Satish Rana, and Chandrika Prasad.
A special team had taken Waqas into custody from Ajmer on March 22, while Akhtar was arrested from Pani Tanki on Nepal-India border on March 25. The team visited a flat in the city where the accused reportedly stayed, apart from a cyber centre in Attavar, which was used by the accused for certain activities, and a centre dealing in computers located near PVS in the city, from where they had bought a laptop.
In the past, Asadulla, said to be an accomplice of Yasin Bhatkal, had been brought to the city by officials of National Investigation Agency for inquiry. The present investigation also covered the aspect of buying around 25 sims by providing fake addresses from different agencies, and the operation of Hawala racket with the participation of suspected terrorists when they were here.
In the past, investigation agencies had hinted about the operation of about ten suspected terrorists owing allegiance to Indian Mujahideen including Riaz and Yasin Bhatkal in and around the city, and their stay at various places including in the city and Ullal.
Waqas, who was reportedly pursuing diploma course in food technology, had been coaxed by Indian Mujahideen into aiding terrorist activities, as per information provided by him during interrogation. It is learnt that during the investigation here, Waqas remained patient, and provided proper answers to questions posed to him.
