Udupi: Suitcase with 25 sovereigns of gold stolen - Reward announced for finder

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (SP)

Udupi, Apr 9: A suitcase containing gold ornaments slipped off the carrier of a moving vehicle and fell on the road in front of Goddess Mahalakshmi Temple in Uchchila in the district at around 9 pm on Monday April 7.

Before the occupants of the car could stop their vehicle and come back to pick up the fallen suitcase, a motor-bike borne person took it away, it is learnt.

Family members of Ratna and Venugopal from ‘Krishnakripa’ in Padi Kudal in Thrissur Kerala had arrived in Mangalore by train for taking part in a religious function being held on Tuesday in the residence of their relatives in Padubidri. Haridas Bhat from Pangala village was bringing from the railway station in his vehicle. The suitcase had been kept on the car carrier located atop the Tata Sumo vehicle.

When passing from in front of Goddess Mahalakshmi Temple of Uchchila, the occupants of the vehicle heard the distinct sound made by the falling suitcase. As there was no scope for taking a U-turn there, the car was driven up to Uchchila bus stand before returning to the place where the suitcase had fallen. As they did not find the suitcase there, enquiries were made with the personnel manning a nearby hotel and drivers of trucks that had been lined up at the spot. The onlookers divulged that they had seen a person on a motor bike stopping his vehicle, and driving ahead after picking up the suitcase.

In a complaint filed at Padubidri police station, Haridas Bhat Pangala said that the suitcase contained 25 sovereigns of gold ornaments besides clothes. Haridas Bhat has requested those who have either found the suitcase, or have any information about the missing suitcase, to contact Padubidri police station (08202555452) or Haridas Bhat (9448445496), and has promised of suitably rewarding such person.

Important point : The suitcase fell off the Car Carrier as it was passing in front of Goddess Mahalaxmi Temple, Uchilla!!!
Was there a hand of Goddess Mahalaxmi?
Did the Goddess do it purposely as the 25 sovereigns were meant for some other purpose? Hand of God.....

I fail to understand why the driver did not reverse the vehicle or a person from the car get down and back track to recover the fallen suitcase instead of searching for a U-turn...!!!
That's what I said it's Goddesses' hand in it.
Best of luck to the aggrieved to recover the loss and let the Goddess make that person return it intact to the Police...

I guess its preplanned, and nobody will put a suitcase containing gold ornaments on top of the car!. And if he really knows it had fallen immediately he can stop the car and go back to pick it up, its not his foolishness that he went to take U turn from far away, its a pre planed to do it, So that he can blame its stolen. One more thing we should notice How immediately someone come in Bike and steal it!!

Yes Hakim. May be you are right. Certainly you have a detective mind. The carrier of the gold and the bike rider may be interconnected.

Why take U turn? They heard sound suitcase falling down from the car. Why they didn’t stop the car in the same time same side of the road. They could get down from the car and come back by walking to pick up the suitcase. Its looks like drivers hand in this act.

I do not find anything wrong in Achhu's comments.

Even if it is one way and provided the footpath in the middle is of permissible height, Tata Sum could have taken a U Turn.(for an emergency case)

Acchu is right. For emergency vehicle can stop middle of the road by proper indicator. If someone hit your vehicle from rear that is not your fault.

1.To keep a bag loaded with 25 sovereigns of gold on a Sumo Top means the persons concerned have nothing at the 'TOP'.
    2. There is a slim chance of the bag being delivered back by the motorcyclist provided:
    a) He does not open it.
    b) More importantly, if it resembles the 'bag' shown here for display purpose(?) only.....

My Advise to Mr. Haridas Bhat, is When you looking for some help from the Finder of the Suitcase, kindly do not mention it as STOLEN, coz the one who stolen will never return it back, Meantime, it was due to ur negligence, it had fallen on the road, it was actually not Stolen, The person who got the suitcase, might have think that it is of no use to hand over to the unknown public or even to police station as most of the people do not have any faith in police dept. So that person might be waiting to return the suitcase honestly by looking at the ad on newspaper or as mentioned here.. So on one side mentioning it as stolen, and on the other side announcing reward for finder doesnt go well.. It might Hurt some honest people..
I hope u will get the suitcase back as it is in original condition, may Goddess Laxmi help you in finding the suitcase.
