Abu Dhabi : Indian gang accused of forcing women to work in prostitution trade

Abu Dhabi, Apr 8 (7days) : Six men accused of forcing women into prostitutionSix men have been charged with bringing women from their home country to the UAE and forcing them into prostitution.

Abu Dhabi Criminal Court was told the Indian men lured scores of women after promising them good jobs, but instead made them join the sex trade.

Prosecutors charged the men with trafficking the women, torturing them and forcing them to work as prostitutes. Court records show the men arranged tourist visas for the victims after telling the women that they had good jobs for them in Abu Dhabi.

But when the Indian women arrived in the UAE, the men took them to an apartment where they kept the victims. “The men forced them to sleep with men against their will,” said prosecutors.

Police said the defendants took the women to nightclubs and men’s apartments and forced them to have sex with men in exchange for money.

One of the victims told prosecutors that after arriving in Abu Dhabi, she was shut in the apartment for several days before being forced into prostitution.

“The men sometimes used to beat me and other women. They tortured us and threatened to hurt us if we refused to have sex with the men,” said the victim.

The defendants denied the charges. The court was adjourned until April 12.
