Mangalore, Apr 8: The Dakshina Kannada unit of Aam Aadmi Party on Tuesday April 8 reported that the car belonging to Dr Mohammad Manseeb, an AAP volunteer was seized by the police at Talapady junction, because it had 60 caps, 50 pamphlets and an unused donation book in it.
Dr Manseeb's parents were returning home from Hosangadi, Manjeshwar. Party volunteers had to go pick them up and take them home since the police would not release the car. The car is currently at the Ullal police station.
"These (seized) items were left over from a previous evening's event and just happened to be in the car," said Dr Manseeb. "I am a practicing doctor and use the car to go to work. Taking my car away makes things extremely difficult for me to go about doing my work," he said.
"This amounts to uneccessary harrasment and thoughtlessness by the police. It is not like there were bundles of campaign material or cash in the vehicle. I wonder what the police will do if they catch me with my backpack with 100 caps and 100 pamplets riding my bicycle. Will they sieze my bicycle?" said Rajan Shastri, an AAP volunteer who rides his bike to the AAP Mangalore city office everyday. "Maybe I should register my bike as a campaign vehicle. I wonder how I can do that," he said.
"It looks like Aam Aadmi Party is being targeted for minor issues while other parties are let off. I am sure we too can get around this if we play their game. But that is exactly what we are fighting against. There needs to be some sensibility applied to such incidents rather than mindlessly taking action," said another volunteer who wished to remain anonymous.
