Kundapur, Apr 8: Geetha Shivrajkumar, who hopes to get elected to Lok Sabha from Shimoga constituency, which had in the past been represented by her father and former Karnataka chief minister, S Bangarappa, tried to strike an emotional chord when she said, ‘give me a chance to represent you in the parliament. I promise not to belie your trust. Please help me to meet the promise I gave to my father during the last moments of his life, and thereby allow his soul to rest in peace. I request you to help JD(S) to strengthen its base again in Karnataka.’
Geetha, who has been pitched by JD(S) as its candidate for Shimoga-Byndoor constituency, was addressing a public meeting organized at Kandlur near here on the evening of Monday April 7.
Geetha’s brother, Madhu Bangarappa, who is an MLA representing Sorab constituency, noted that the electorate of the constituency had voted a BJP candidate last time. ‘I know what Raghavendra did after getting elected, and how far he responded to your needs. Yeddyurappa, who was voted to power in the past, and who was jailed because of corrupt practices, is fighting election again. Geetha has entered the fray with the sole aim of providing honest services to the people. I am vesting my sister at your mercy, and you have the onus of blessing her wholeheartedly,’ he added.
Entrepreneur, V K Mohan, addressing the gathering, divulged that he had never been a member of any political outfit so far, and that he had neither become a member of any organization within his community, nor got involved with caste-based politics so far. ‘I have always treated people belonging to different castes and religions as equal. I have cultivated the habit of donating 30 percent of my earning to people facing one problem or the other. In recognition of my social service so far, I request you to cast your votes to Geetha Shivrajkumar,’ he requested.
Sandalwood actor, Shivrajkumar, and actress, Sanjana, also appealed to the people to elect Geetha. Shivarajkumar also entertained the audience by rendering a song from his popular movie, ‘Jogi’. JD(S) Udupi district unit president, Deviprasad Shetty, district minorities cell president, Mansoor Ibrahim, SDPI district president, Abdul Rahiman, JD(S) district women’s unit president, Shalini Shetty Kenchanur, Byndoor constituency unit president, Ranjitkumar Shetty, youth unit president, Sandesh Bhat Uppunda, and other leaders like Jagadish Yadiyala and Kishore Ballal were present.
The leaders also addressed electioneering meetings held during the day at Saukoor, Mavinakatte, Nerlakatte, Vandse, Chittoor, Idur Kunjady, Areshirur, Yadtare Bypass, Byndoor, Dombeshirur, Shirur Melpete, Uppunda, Kambadakone, Nagur, Kirimanjeshwar, Maravanthe, and Trasi.
