Mangalore, Apr 7: Family members of the three persons arrested in connection to the recent murder of Rajesh at Kalpane, BC Road claimed on Monday April 7 that the youths were innocent and demanded a fresh probe into the case.
Rajesh
Auto driver Rajesh was murdered at Kalpane on March 21. The police on April 1 arrested Hussain, Imran and Irshad, all residents of Demmale in Mallur. A bike and two weapons used to commit the crime were recovered from them.
Addressing a press meet here on April 7, the family members of the three accused demanded a fresh investigation by a sincere police official.
"When we approached the Bantwal town police, they failed to give clear information. The three arrested youths have no past criminal record. They were working as labourers and looking after their families," they said.
They alleged that the police had 'tortured the three and forced them to admit to commiting the murder even though they were not involved in it'.
"The police threatened to register other other cases against them and ensure that would not be bailed out from jail if they refused to admit to the crime," alleged Aseema, sister of Irshad.
The women alleged that the police subjected the accused to electric shock on their ears and also applied chili power to their private parts. "The arrested youths told us that the police had beaten them with batons on their legs," they said.
The family members urged for investigation by a sincere official and demanded disciplinary action against the policemen who tortured the accused.
Shabana, Shahida and Sumayya were present.
