Udupi: Notorious thieves nabbed, ornaments worth Rs 13 lac seized

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (EP/SP)

Udupi, Apr 2: The police on Monday March 31, arrested two thieves, who used to visit houses in the guise of collecting old clothes supposedly for the use of inmates of an Ashram, and confiscated gold ornaments worth Rs 13 lac from them. The thieves used to roam around in various localities, posing themselves as volunteers of a non-profit organization, and would identify houses which were easy targets for theft. They later stole valuables from there.

The arrested persons are Mahesh (19), a native of Agre Angadihalli near Belur in Hassan district and Manikanta (19) from Nagarabavi, Bangalore. It is said that Mahesh had recently shifted his residence to Kozhikode district in Kerala.

The police grew suspicious about their activities while investigating a  theft which occurred at Barkur in the district on March 13. After closely monitoring their activities by using modern techniques, they arrested the culprits on March 31. It is learnt that Mahesh had earlier been caught relating to a theft in Manipal, but had been released on bail.

The two youngsters visited various houses with letterheads printed in the name of Shreyas Home for the Aged and Orphanage, Magadi, Bangalore, and sought to collect used clothes by visiting houses. During these visits, they made a note of locked houses and later executed their plan to steal things. They used to stay in houses of relatives and some tents located at Balaipade in Udupi, and Suratkal since a year.

The police, during interrogation, got to know about various thefts with which the duo was involved with, in Udupi and Kundapur taluks, Karnad in Mulky, Aikala in Kinnigoli, Beltangady, and Mangalore. 490 grams of ornaments worth around Rs 13.23 lac were recovered from their possession.

The operation was led by Brahmavar sub-inspector of police, Girish S, under the supervision of Brahmavar police circle inspector, Arun B Nayak, additional district superintendent of police, Santosh Kumar, police deputy superintendent, Dr Prabhudeva B Mane, and the direction of district superintendent of police, Dr Boralingaiah.

    @ Bollu, Mangalore

Appreciated your views/vision about providing right jobs for the thieves in question (or in genera) if Modi becomes P.M.

Also, let Mr. Modi find out a solution to the moral police force who are unemployed and create a nuisance in the society.

    All will be happy.

    Dear Sachidanada,
If these guys are sent to army, they will start supplying arms and ammunitions to terrorists. They will not withstand the Army training. They want easy money without hard work.Regard the human rights,in some cases a person brutally killed and his dependents suffer without any support for survival, still the culprit should not be hanged due to his human rights though the deceased no right to live and his dependents no right to survive.

These drama of collecting money in the name of the orphanage and treatment of sick people and for the cricket tournament are common in our place.so people shouldn't support all these kind of activities. The government should make compulsory to take permissions from the local police station before collecting money from the public.

These guys better be employed the government and sent to China or Pakistan to spy for military purpose. When our elected representatives were involved in the theft of our state's mineral resources our police did not use the modern techniques to chain them as they show these chaps in a poor shape - why this double standard? Watch YouTube videos to see how they treat corrupt politicians in China:

Only way India shining will be abolish begging in India completely. India should open more orphanage homes for abandoned people. Begging has become a menace in India. This is one of the main reasons for petty crimes.

Should call the police bcos I heard in the radio informing that any beggar come home begging for old clothes in the name of ashram or anything should call the police. I don't remember the exact contact no which they had given. But police should take action. There is a rehabilitation center for beggars by the Government.

Now what again bail, so that they can start their business again and again. What a great Indian Act. Just see their age, at this young age this type of robbery, one day they will start killing, so kill them instantly before you get killed.

Dear Willy, with great respects to your concern, but we can’t kill anyone just like that, instead we need to kill their habits of stealing else we will caught up in human rights violation too. The best way to stop these criminals or petty thieves is to send them to Military Service for next 10 to 15 years so that they will learn discipline of life as well as they will have a source of income too to lead remaining life

@Sachidanand Shetty, Mundkur/Dubai, I fully agree with you. For that matter, it would be ideal to make Military service mandatory at least for 3 to 4 years for every youth.
