Udupi, Apr 1: Well-known art critic, A Eshwaraiah, opined that a person who has the skill, intelligence and patience to closely observe, and catch the moment of transformation, like when wind blows, a drop of water trickles, shade of light changes, or mud and dust get transformed, can grow into an excellent photographer.
He was speaking at an exhibition of photographs by international award winning photographer, Raghavendra Kodangala, named ‘Light and Dust’, organized by ‘Banna’ an organization of likeminded people, under the aegis of Udupi Foundation. The creations of Kodangala arranged at this exhibition depict the scenic beauty of Rajasthan.
‘Imagine yourself in a market place. Observe how the environment changes magically in a matter of seconds when a few rain drops fall. You will see people running helter-skelter, those who try to protect their goods from rain, etc. The entire atmosphere gets transformed into one that is totally opposed to what the place looked like a moment ago. Such dramatic changes can be brought about by light and wind too. A good photographer needs eyes that have the capacity to minutely observe these subtle changes. In Rajasthan, you can see change happening in wind, water, sand, and light, on a continuous basis. A photographer, who assimilates these movements, can alone catch their richness properly. Raghavendra Kodangala has ably done this job,’ he observed.
Sri Laxmivarateertha Swamiji of Shirur Mutt, who inaugurated the photo exhibition, delivered benedictory address. Shashi Shetty, president of Goa Buntara Sangha, noted that photographs depicting magical mixture of dust particles caught in twilight by Kodangala, provide a deep-rooted experience.
Master photographer, Gurudath Kamath, director of ‘Namma TV’, Dr Shivasharan Shetty, and Udupi Foundation chairman, Vasant Rao, were present. Director of ‘Banna’, Dinesh Kini, welcomed. Photographer, Raghavendra Kodangala, proposed vote of thanks. Balakrishna Shibarla hosted the programme.
