Canada, Mar 31: With great pleasure and pride, Canara World Foundation Inc. (CWF) – one of the renowned Konkani Associations in North America – geared up for its decennial jubilee day celebration by presenting a mega event ‘Wilfy Nite’ at the ‘Port Credit Secondary School Auditorium’ in Mississauga, Canada on Saturday, April 26, 2014.
CWF proudly takes the credit creating a history in North America by organizing the first ever ‘Wilfy Nite’, one of Konkani World’s greatest music entertainment programs in Canada, a decade ago. After the thrilling success of ‘Wilfy Nite’ in 2005, 'Claud Nite' in 2008, 'Henry Nite' in 2009, 'Melwyn Peris Nite in 2010, ‘Claud Nite’ in 2011, and Canara Kalasaanz-2012 with veteran Konkani Dramatist Francis Fernandes Cascia, this year’s program will undoubtedly attract Konkani art and music lovers in big numbers.
The entire Rebimbus family, headed by Konkan Maina Meena, is expected to arrive in Toronto during the Easter season to present a unique and nostalgic music extravaganza that comprises Amar Wilfy’s most popular compositions. The great Rebimbus music team is going to entertain the crowd with Konkan Maina Meena, Vishwas and Veena’s recent compositions as well. Renowned music director Jovi Pinto is going to fly into Canada all the way from Mangalore, India to lead and to add more spice into the music orchestra.
The name Mural Gratia Pinto may not be familiar to most Konkani music lovers. But the very mention of Meena Rebimbus popularly known as “Konkan Maina”, strikes an instant chord of recognition among all Konkani music lovers. It is going to be 50 years since this nightingale has begun to lend her mellifluous voice to enrich Konkani music and it goes on. Together with her husband the late Wilfy Rebimbus, who can be rightly called as the doyen of Konkani music, she has rendered yeoman’s service to Konkani music. Her contribution to Konkani music is unparalleled and legendary. The Konkani Diaspora in Canada is truly blessed to listen to this legend’s live performance after a gap of ten years.
Max Mendes, the founder and dynamic President of CWF informed ‘Daijiworld Canada’ that “We created a history in 2005 by organizing the first ever Wilfy Nite in North America and now as to mark the completion of 10 glorious years of CWF we are extremely excited and proud to host such a unique power packed Konkani entertainment in Canada with the members of highly talented Rebimbus family that will surely create a niche of yet another remarkable milestone in Canada. Their performance will open a new door to an exciting entertainment arena in Canada.” In the words of Flavian Pinto, the co-founder of CWF and the Chair of the organizing committee, “the members of the organizing committee have worked very hard to plan this magnificent event and we are doing all the necessary preparations to organize an event that will entertain Konkani Music lovers in Canada. Fantastic music, dazzling dances and rib-tickling comedy will be the highlights of the show”, he added. He was highlighting the program details of ‘Wilfy Nite in Kala-saanz’, an event that Canara World Foundation presents every year to showcase the talents of Canarite immigrants in Canada.
