Kasargod, Mar 29: Kumble police on Saturday March 29 arrested two persons in connection with the murder of B M Shafique, whose body was found buried under a huge mound of sand at Kumble here on Thursday March 27.
The arrested were identified as Abdul Salam (22), a resident of Kumble Peral, and Naushad (22).
Police arrested Abdul Salam from Kundapur, while he was reportedly planning to escape to a Gulf country via Mumbai. Naushad was arrested from Sullia. One more accused, identified as Asir, is absconding.
It is also learnt that the accused allegedly murdered Shafique as an act of revenge.
Shafique
Sources said that a few months ago, Abdul Salam was kidnapped and attacked by B M Shafique and his men. After recovering from injuries Abdul Salam started working in a bakery at Cochin. Two days before the incident, Abdul Salam who came to Kasargod, purchased two machetes and hid them in a hillock near his residence. He also planned to move to a foreign country with a visiting visa. He had also obtained a flight ticket to travel on Thursday at around 7:10 pm. The responsibility to commit this crime was given to Naushad. Abdul Salam had hatched the conspiracy, it is learnt.
Naushad and Shafique were known to each other. As per Salam's plan, Shafique was called to the crime spot. Later Abdul Salam and another person by name Asir arrived at the spot. The accused then attacked and stabbed Shafique to death, and buried his body under the mound of sand before fleeing the spot, police sources said.
Police collected more information about Shafique, which helped in tracking down the culprits.
