Mobile towers in Moodbidri ignore norms, operate without legal sanction

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Mar 29: It is found that out of several mobile towers operating in Moodbidri town, the tower standing at Alangar alone has met with all the norms and legal provisions. The other towers are illegal per se, but the town administration has turned a blind eye to these towers. Therefore, revenue running into thousands of rupees, which would have flown into the coffers of the municipality, is being allowed to drain away.

This information was extracted from the details furnished by the municipality in response to application under Rights to Information Act. Several companies have erected mobile towers in Moodbidri, which is growing into a satellite township of Mangalore. Before erecting them, these towers need to obtain the nod of the municipality and comply with specified norms. But the private companies which have established these towers have cared two hoots about this need. They have directly entered into agreements with individual land holders, and set up the towers. Interestingly, the local administration has not objected to these structures, nor has it taken care to augment its income by serving notices and collecting its due, thus suffering a loss of considerable revenue.

Mobile towers stand on several buildings in the town. As the companies which establish these towers pay rental to the owners of the buildings, these owners are required to pay additional taxes to the municipality. But, as per municipal records, no such tax has so far been levied to anyone. This has given rise to two-pronged loss, one in the form of tax on towers, and the other in the form of under-assessment of building tax.

The union government’s department of telecommunications had provided guidelines to states relating to the setting up of mobile towers in August last year. As per them, the companies need to furnish records to the local administration and state government including registration certificate from the department of telecommunications, and licence.

The companies have to furnish details like height, weight, location, number of antennae etc. If the towers are built on buildings, structural stability certificates should be obtained from the structural engineers from Central Building Research Institute/ITI/NIT etc and these certificates should be filed with the local administration. But the companies have not followed any of these procedures so far, in connection with the towers they have built in and around the town.

ITs the effect of Mob towers, U r right. Now a days all sparrows migrated to GULFS. Here also mobile towers are there, but operate with all safety measures.
Indians are not bothered of these things which pose a threat to themselves. Rather indulge in cast and religion politics. When we grow up???

Friends the uncontrolled growth of MTs throughout DK is a very disturbing trend from the point of view of human and animal health!!

It has been found that the very large amounts of radiation (much beyond that allowed in advanced countries) has been responsible for cancers, depression, mental confusion, heart problems, etc. in humans and also destroying avian species and bees, which is very bad for the human race!!

In one small building in suburban Mumbai at least four young and old
people developed CA due to proximity of multiple towers installed in their surroundings!!
In Mumbai awareness has been created to the highest level and all illegal towers have been demolished and even those who had initially fixed them (greed of rentals) are shunning them!!

Do not install a tower in your compound for the few lacs of deposit and rentals and ruin your and your neighborhood's life with some serious disorder!! Also, be careful of somebody trying to push his property at a discounted rate which is very close or has a mobile tower installed within it, it is not worth it!! The decision is yours!! Jai Hind!!

An to my earlier comment : The permissible radiation limit has been reduced to 1/10th of the earlier limits as on 01-09-2012 viz. 0.9 W/m2 for 1800MHz band. Which is 10times lower than earlier radiation norms.

At 9.2W/m2 (Watt per meter square) , the permissible radiation from a tower is one of the heighest in the world. In Australia the permissible radiation is 0.00001W/m2 (Is'nt that incredible).

To add to this the policy does not speak anything about multiple towers being erected in the same location. In this case per tower the permissible radiation should be reduced.

There is a specific study on cell tower radiation carried out by Dr. Girish Kumar of IIT-Bombay. Interesting facts and figures can be found in this study about radiation norms, Cancer Links and Govt. policies.

This problem is not restricted to Moodbidri alone. In nearby Kinnigoli, a mobile tower is erected very near to my Flat causing health hazards and the nearby coconut tree is dried because of this Tower!

You can use a simple radiation detector like DETEX 189 to check the levels of radiation. This meter should be easily available in Mumbai since it is manufactured locally.

Safe distance from building to a single tower is 20m as per DOT and 2 towers is 35m , 4 towers is 45m , 6 towers is 55m.

The policy says that there shall be no nearby buildings right in front of the antenna with height comparable to the lowest antenna on the tower at a distance as mentioned in the above statement

Bro, the radiation emitted can cause a series of disorders, including deadly CA, and if you are not far as the safe distance limit at least suggested by the mobile cos. then it is time for rethinking! Jai Hind!!
