Kundapur, Mar 28: ‘If the voters elect me as their representative, I will work for the development of Shimoga constituency honestly. I promise to give special priority to Byndoor assembly constituency and try to solve problems plaguing people here,’ said JDS candidate from Shimoga Lok Sabha constituency, Geetha Shivarajkumar. She was speaking to reporters at Guddammady near here on Thursday March 27.
‘I am confident that the people of this constituency will provide me an opportunity to serve them. During electioneering all over the constituency, I have observed that there is favourable atmosphere for the party among the electorate. Leaders of the party have been doing excellent work. If the people bless me with victory, I will discharge the responsibility as a Lok Sabha member honestly and to the best of my ability,’ she promised.
Geetha assured to make Shimoga her home if she is elected, and to involve full time with the development of the constituency. Adding that her husband and Sandalwood actor, Shivarajkumar, has fully supported her decision to fight the election, she revealed that he will also campaign for her in the coming days. She also expected several actors from Kannada filmdom to canvass for her.
MLA and JDS Shimoga district unit president, Madhu Bangarappa, said that his late father, Bangarappa, has left behind a strong positive impression in the minds of the people, which continues to be visible even now. ‘He was a secular person, with strong leadership qualities. I am sure that the people, crossing caste and religious considerations, will wholeheartedly vote for his daughter, Geetha Shivarajkumar,’ he added.
In the joint press conference, he said he does not find any problem with the organizational set up of the party in Byndoor. He revealed that during his travel throughout the constituency, he has found strong base for the party everywhere. ‘I am confident that the people will vote us, by ignoring both Congress and BJP. The media has revealed to you the administrative follies of Congress. Yeddyurappa had, in the last election, ensured victory for his son from this constituency, by misusing caste considerations, money, and power. Because of his thirst for power, Yeddyurappa is fighting election again from this constituency. What moral right Yeddyurappa, who left BJP, and formed KJP, before crossing over again to BJP has to seek votes from you?’ he questioned. Madhu said his party had decided to seek votes in the name of my father, who provided good administration. ‘Our stand will be secular, and we hope to secure a win in view of large number of support Bangrappa has in the constituency,’ he explained.
JDS minority district unit president, Mansur Ibrahim Maravante, JDS women’s unit district president, Shalini Shetty Kenchanur, other leaders like Kishore, Srikant Adiga, D R Raju, block JDS president, Ranjit Kumar Shetty, Annappa Senapura etc were present.
Geetha addressed an electioneering meeting near Lord Subrahmanya Swamy Temple in Guddammady, where she promised the gathering to honestly try to solve problems faced by people of Byndoor constituency like sea erosion, toddy tapping problems, and ration cards etc. Madhu Bangarappa and several other leaders were present.
