Kundapur, Mar 27: BJP candidate from Shimoga Lok Sabha constituency and former chief minister of Karnataka, B S Yeddyurappa, visited the house of former BJP legislator and Independent MLA Halady Srinivas Shetty, on Wednesday March 26. He had an interaction with Shetty for about half an hour.
After the discussions, Yeddyurappa directly proceeded to Udupi to take part in the programme of filing of nomination by BJP candidate from Udupi-Chikmagalur constituency, Shobha Karandlaje.
Halady is said to have told Yeddyurappa that the people of his constituency, after he resigned from BJP, had chosen him as an Independent candidate, and that he treats this as a mandate from the people to remain independent.
“Therefore, I have chosen to be independent, without supporting anyone during this election. My supporters have already conveyed their respective stands to the concerned,” Halady reportedly told Yeddyurappa.
Yeddyurappa was accompanied during the visit by Byndoor constituency BJP president, B M Sukumar Shetty and some other leaders.
It may be recalled that reportedly on Yeddyurappa's behest, Udupi-Chikmagalur BJP candidate Shobha Karandlaje had met Halady a few days back and requested his support. Though later on some of Halady's supporters decided to back Shobha, Halady himself had asserted that he would remain neutral.
